Amazing cast wasted on a horrifically bad movie.
Like everyone else, my feelings about The Last Jedi are complicated. This movie took chances and some of those chances landed and some didn't. But this is also a movie about making mistakes and recovering from those mistakes. For me, the parts that didn't land were forgivable, and the good parts took my breath away. I've seen it twice now and enjoyed it much more the second time. It's not a perfect movie, by any stretch of the imagination, but it's definitely worth seeing.
This movie is a mixed bag for me. I love most of the ingredients. Ben Affleck is an amazing Bruce Wayne/Batman. Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman seizes and holds onto your attention every time she's on screen. I like Henry Cavill as Superman quite a bit. The action and the set pieces are outstanding. The secondary characters are also really good; Laurence Fishburne as Perry White immediately comes to mind.
My main issue with the movie is that the characters serve the story instead of the story serving the characters. It's a grim and gritty affair, with only a few spots for humor here and there. WB/DC has these characters on a rail heading to a destination. I can literally feel the hand of the writers and producers as I watch this movie, steering it to a particular point as they try to catch up to Marvel.
I definitely recommend seeing it. Wonder Woman alone is worth the price of admission. Just make sure that you temper your expectations going in.
I laughed so hard last night my throat is sore today. I honestly don't remember the last time I was so genuinely entertained by a movie. I love comics and comic book movies, Deadpool has never been my favorite, but I'm very familiar with his niche in the comic book landscape.
This movie is ridiculously violent, extremely raunchy, hilarious, and sweetly touching all at the same time. If you're okay with potty humor, appropriate levels of violence and boobs, I can't recommend it enough. Also, the Stan Lee cameo is to die for!
