Lots of flash, bam, boom but at moments I found myself confused and lost in the storyline. Bonus points for the soundtrack, there are some fantastic groovable tracks!
How did this not win best picture? What an emotional gut wrenching film. Fantastic. Acting. Score. Bring some tissues..
Fantastic Film! Don't miss it.
To quote another review - "Casablanda" That about sums it up. At the 30 minute mark I wanted to shut it off, I stuck with it but I should have abandoned ship and watched something else! Don't waste your time on this one.
Oh my. Just go on youtube and watch find the clip of the water ballet. I have been trying to watch all the Esther Williams films...but I may have reached the wall. It's getting too painful.
Quirky funny movie. Hailee Steinfeld and Woody Harrelson bounce quips off each other so fast you almost get whiplash! Good cast all around. Enjoyable movie with the moral of be careful what you text or fb message - you can't take it back...
Love (FINALLY) wins in this historical drama about Richard and Mildred Loving, who just wanted to be married, raise their family and live in their hometown. Fantastic job by Ruth Negga & Joel Edgerton.
Good. There were some missed opportunities, but on the whole an enjoyable take. I was expecting more from the Gaston musical number. If you have seen the Broadway version they do marvelous things with drinking mugs and stomping dance maneuvers - I was expecting something as equally epic. The new musical numbers were good, one by Celine Dion over the ending credits and another "pop" version of Evermore by Josh Groban sung by Dan Stevens (Beast) in the film. Let's not even talk about the over vocalization in the title tune remake by Ariana Grande and John Legend. BLECH! If you really want to torture yourself go watch the video, Grande is dressed like a large red loofah. She is supposed to represent the rose or just trust me it's painful! Back to the movie. Be Our Guest is of course fantastical - but it's all animated . The back of my mind is niggling...isn't this supposed to be a LIVE ACTION REMAKE!? The ballroom dance sequence is of course impressive and then after I learned some behind the scenes facts even more impressive. Dan Stevens waltzed on stilts wearing a 40 pound suit covered in dots for the motion capture as the Beast. Again good but could have been better.
Skip It! Apparently this is one of a series - I was mostly lost for the bulk of the movie.
What a horrible Christmas movie. In the end all the characters realized they've been massive arseholes. But the viewers had to suffer through all their awfulness for two hours to get there. This is a four alarm alert - stay away, stay far away from this movie. Minus a further half star for gratuitous Neil Lane and Kay Jewelers product placement. HORRIBLE!
What! There should be no crying in superhero movies! Logan breaks all the rules. Wolverine and Charles Xavier shouldn't age!! No. No. No. That said a great movie that tugs at your emotions at every turn.
Fantastic! The cinematography was excellent. The story is King Kong meets Jurassic Park so in the words of Samuel L. Jackson "Hold on to your butts!", you are in for quite the visual treat!
So much talent, but the story really seemed to drag in places.
Important subject matter for certain, but this won best picture?!
The three actors portraying Chiron were fantastic! As was Naomie Harris, who portrayed his mother.
Finally I have seen Moana!! It did not disappoint! Loved the story and music.
Great performances, albeit a weird movie to say the very least. Just remember at breakfast we wear clothes!
Another in the Esther Williams catalog. Fiesta is Ricardo Montalban's film debut! Esther and Ricardo portray Maria and Mario, the twin children of a famous matador. Maria wants to bullfight, Mario is expected to, but his passion is music. Maria masquerading as Mario fights in the arena. Eventually her father figures it all out and Mario follows his passion for music. The movie also features Cyd Charisse and the song La Bamba, later famously associated with Ritchie Valens.
Wow. Funny in all the wrong ways. Somewhat of a poor man's South Pacific. Everything that South Pacific got right, this movie got terribly wrong. I am slowly working my way through all of Esther Williams movies and I love Howard Keel (Annie Get Your Gun & Seven Brides for Seven Brothers), but this movie was not their best foray into cinema. For one several times through out the movie both of them look like they fell into a vat of bronzer, then at other moments in the film they appear to be as white as the moon. The songs are enjoyable, but forgettable.
Takes large leaps from the book narrative. But a pretty good trip.
At least the couples are moving their relationships along. Minus 1 star for Kristin Booth's character disappear for a large portion of the movie. You can't break up the fab four of the DLO!
