Wonder Woman
Wonder Woman (2017)

Wonder Woman is quite good.

I really wanted it to be great, but it's just quite good.

Unlike its growly, sweaty, atrocious predecessors, it is my great pleasure to report that it at least tries to be a sweet, charming, HEROIC film. Also, the film has a cohesive story with a beginning, middle and end and not just scenes presented in front of each other and stacked on top of each other like pieces of luncheon meat product. It also does not feature a jar of Jesse Eisenberg's piss.

Unfortunately it still has far too much dialogue left over from 80s cartoons ("What are you?" "You're about to find out!" "I will DESTROY you!!"), it still has overcooked fight choreography that makes you yearn for the halcyon days of the Matrix sequels and it still has CGI so needlessly distracting that you might as well be watching the film through a translucent Game Boy Advance. Essentially, while it is a good 68,000 times better than "Batman V Superman Colon Dawn of Justice", it's just not better enough to make up for that constipated stain of video product (it wasn't a film).

Still, I'd prefer a just-okay Wonder Woman that champions all the ideals of this film over those of the ugly monsters pretending to be Superman and Batman in the other films. Diana Prince in this movie, is earnest and proud and mighty in the tradition of the heroes I loved as a child. If you have a little girl and you bring her to this film, she will leave wanting to be like Wonder Woman.

Star Trek Beyond

A great big, silly love-letter to The Original Series that finally embraces all the stuff that makes Star Trek great, without sacrificing big action or popcorn thrills.

MUCH better than the karaoke farce of Into Darkness.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Muddled, confusing, ill-advised and unpleasant. Occasionally interesting. Often downright offensive. Never heroic.
