So for the first hour and a bit of this movie I was sitting there going " why the hell am I still watching this movie". For that period of time no explanations are given for anything that is happening and normally that would leave you with the feeling of wanting to know what happens. This movie on the other hand just leaves you confused and annoyed the whole time. I will say though the end did save the movie from being the worst I've seen, but it still wouldn't recommend anyone see this movie. I will say though when one of the characters gets fried to death it was awesome.
Gonna start off by saying I'm Canadian and I'm totally biased. In actuality though it wasn't a terrible movie, if you like some grade A Canadian cheese then you'll love this film. The singing at times isn't the greatest but to be honest you won't really care because the lyrics are adorably quirky; as well the dancing in hockey garb is quite amusing. The fact that Olivia Newton-John is a crazy mother and Nelly Furtado plays a crazed hockey fan are just the icing on the cake for this movie. Also gotta love me some George Stroumboulopoulos! Overall I'd say if your Canadian you will probably find this movie amusing. If you're not but you have a good sense of humor and you like movies that aren't Hollywood grade then you might find this enjoyable. I will say that if you're not Canadian you might have trouble understanding the satire.
This movie was amazing. Animation was fabulous, characters were incredibly written and the story was unique and cute while still being able to go a bit dark. Also lets not lie the dragons were absolutely adorable!
I was really skeptical when I first heard that this movie would be done in a single continuous camera shot, BUT I actually think it greatly helped the horror aspect of the film. It did fail a bit during chase scenes but other then that it really helped you feel what the main character was going through. That being said though, I did find the story to be bit generic and a tad predictable, but still better then a lot of other horror movies that have come out in the last ten years. If you are at all interested in cinematography you should definitely check out this film!
*Spoilers* The Polaroid camera scene honestly made the movie amazing!!
If the movie solely focused on the Lorax and the Once-ler storyline, and not on the very weak one that was a little boy trying to get a kiss, then I believe this movie would have been a lot better. It was hard at the climax of the movie to really get behind the characters because they seemed to be in a rush for no reason at all. The animation was nice but not nice enough to make this movie worth seeing.
So different from the gore and nudity that plagues the horror movie genre now a days. This movie fully appreciates that slow moving, continuous horror can be much more powerful than cheap jump scares. It's everything good about horror, managing to stick to the horror tropes instead of the cliches, and I would definitely recommend everyone to see it...unless you have absolutely no patience for storyline driven horror flicks. Even then suck it up and watch this movie, its amazing!
