A decent enough directorial debut by the rising star JGL, but its potentially interesting premise of the men-women difference in relationship expectations as based on porn (men) and hollywood romantic schmaltz (women) is hampered by a weak narrative, repetitive scenes that was slow in getting to the point, and a rushed climactic ending.

It is the Scandinavian version of Life of Pi - instead of an Indian boy, a tiger, a zebra, and an orang utan, there are (mostly) hunky Norwegian men adrift on a raft, battling the elements (and sometimes each other) at the open sea for months. Its action sequences deliver despite an otherwise mellow screenplay.

Fantastic use of CGI brings to life the fairytale of the book that was previously thought un-filmable. The film engulfs the viewer in such poetic, ethereal beauty as well as moments of present danger that it's truly a film for the senses.

Django Unchained

The violence comes fast and easy, and the gore gratuitous, but the retro spaghetti western feel of the movie along with some great dialogue, phenomenal cinematography and EPIC soundtrack make Django Unchained an instant classic and adds yet another heavyweight title to Tarantino's belt.

No one can play the role of a rich and powerful man who commands respect just by walking into the room as well as Richard Gere, save perhaps Michael Douglas. Gere in this film is the epitome of the dashing and conniving Wall Street type, who is desperately trying to get himself out of some serious binds. The film offers a tensed and thrilling insider's glance into the life of a man who seemingly have it all but ultimately warns that all which glitter isn't always gold.
