From Russia With Love
5 years ago via Rotten Tomatoes

This movie doesn't know what it wants to be. On one hand it's cheesy 60s camp; on the other it seems to want to be a suspenseful spy thriller that is taken seriously. What you get is a lot of eye-rolling moments (2 gypsy women fight each other to the death because they both love one man, then are spared by Bond and become his love willing concubines for a night). What we see is a rough-around-the-edges film that has yet to become the more polished and irreverent Bond films that we are most familiar with.

Stranger Than Fiction

It really didn't deliver on the promise of its premise. Instead it fell into tired tropes and missed many opportunities for humor.

August Rush
August Rush (2007)

A refreshing take on Oliver Twist. August Rush proves that Indie flix can have happy endings. Sheridan's use of montage becomes a bit tedious at times, but it also serves as a platform for the music and the importance it plays in the character's lives. Freddie Highmore is so goddam cute. Leon Thomas III nails his portrayal of Artful Dodger. Robin Williams phones in his version of Fagen. Pitiful. It's definitely worth the 15 bucks Blockbuster will charge you to rent it. Is it 15 now or 20?

Pan's Labyrinth

A fairy tale within a fairy tale--brutal, engrossing, emotional and expertly crafted.
