Now I know why Ron Howard's movie ''Solo' was so bad. He made it in the form of a JJ Abram's 'Star Wars' movie. It is time to relaize that JJ Abrams is not a good director. The first three Star Wars movies were so good. There were characters and there was tension. There is none of that in this latest one which is not surprising since there was none in any of teh Star Wars and Star Trek movies that Abrams has been associated with.
This movie is supposed to be the last of the Skywalker movies. I know that that isn't true because there is just too much money to be made in this. I hope that I am wrong about this because it is time that this tired franchise was ended. The first three movies were so good and the rest have been so bad. Please let it end.
This latest one is like the rest of the JJ Abrams' movies - utter dreck
Much too long and self-indulgent
Slasher films were colossal bores 40 years ago and they are colossal bores today. It is just the same boring thing over and over again.
This is a truly touching movie.
This is an extremely good movie. The concept of using digital media as source of teh action is very effective.
A bunch of grown men acting like 14 year old boys and that i supposed to be funny. This is a movie designed for the 14 year old boy market. it isn't funny. It isn't thrilling. it is just a calculated mess.
This is a quiet movie examining human frailty. it is well worth watching. The characters played by Cristin Miloti and Omar Medwally provide the most interest in the movie
There are some movies that are so bad that they become fascinating to watch just to see how bad they can be. This movie isn't bad. It isn't much of anything. However, it does take the feeling of boredom to levels at which it becomes inverted. The boredom that this movie generates becomes an end in itself.
Don't expect to learn anything or feel anything with this movie. it just exists and that is about all I can say about it.
A beautiful performance by Olivier. The decline of British influence in teh world is modeled as a metaphor by the decline of a musichall performer.
Thandie Newton has a major role in this movie. She also has a starring role in teh TV series Westworld.. Westworld is much much better than this movie. This is an indication of the reversal that has gone on between movies and television. Westworld is an excellent drama and is typicla of the quality that television provides now. Solo is a piece of boring commercial dreck that is derivative on the original Star Wars movies. The main attribute that I can think of for Solo is that it is evidence of how good teh roginal movies were. It used to be that televsion was full of low budget formula dreck. Now it is the movies and especially predicable retreads like Solo that show how far teh quality of movies have fallen.
The audience laughed at the jokes during teh showing of the movie that I went to. What else can anyone ask of a movie. This is unlike most American comedies in during showings of which, teh audience sits silent. This is a funny movie . There is an underlying theme teh old people and especailly older woem are not decripti and helpless. The sexulal content of teh movie stands in for that. The Diane Keaton character rebels against the wishes of her daughters who are trying to force her from her home into a dotage living in the refurbished basement of one of their homes. Candice Bergen plays a federal judge. Jane Fonda plays a hotel owner. And Mary Steenbergen plays a successful chef with her own restaurant. The theme of the capability of older women is well played out in the movie.
Avengers and the other comic book movie series now take themselves very very seriously. Deadpool is the antithesis of that and that is why it is very good. This movie takes the mick out the current pretentiousness of comic book movies. It is funny where it is supposed to be funny. It sends a knowing wink when it is supposed to do it. it is a very good movie worth the money for admission.
Very artistic. its just that Ken Russell forgot that he was making a movie
.This is a self-indulgent mess of a movie
Some novels cannot be translated to the screen and David Lean has demonstrated that "A Passage to India" is on e
of them. The movie has none of the novel's subtlety and betrays the novels theme by becoming a dull moralizing melodrama. When I studied the novel in school, the question that the better students asked was 'Why could Professor Godpole not love the stone?" None of the novel's motavtings of that question appear in the movie and with this the movie betrays the novel. Even the novel's ending of "No, not yet'> in regard to the reconciliation among people is absent and substituted with a easy happy ending. This is a movie that is not worthy of the novel that it is based on.
I found this to be an enjoyable intellectual movie. it is a movie that one retains in the mind and thinks about after they have left the theatre. it is not the sugar high that so much of the CGI-based movie industry is about now.
