oh, this ones a keeper for sure...Fulci playing himself, suffering from an overdose of gore induced mental breakdown? day dreaming gore scenes from other italian horror schlock? a fuckin onslaught of graphic bloody violence that dosent make a lick of sense..but who cares turn your brain off and absorb this nonsense...might wanna bring that trusty rain slicker though, might get a little juicey...
a personal fav..and it's also the film that got me into extreme horror. stumbled upon this one at the age of 13, in some dingy mom and pop video store. gloriously lurid poster art, but that was only a fracion of what i was in for. the scenes of graphic carnage that ensued are forever etched into my brain. a repressed momma's boy who was severely abused throughout his childhood goes on a killing spree on the streets of new york. His vicims? any female that reminds him of his mother. After each brutal murder he scalps the victims and takes the trophy home to nail onto his collection of mannequins. Joe Spinell's acting is flawless.
could not resist reviewing this film as i am currently in the process of making head cheese...hands down greatest horror film ever made and a perfect example of 70's horror/exploitation cinema. Gritty, visceral and always in your face. But its not afraid to be campy once in a while too. I don't care how many hostels or saws you've seen this movie will always creep right under your skin. The ending alone is way more intense than any supposedly extreme horror films i've seen in the last 10 years. Stay far away from the abortive remake and its prequel. This is the only massacre you need to see. Tobe Hooper went on to make one more solid horror film called Eaten Alive, then his output just started going down hill.
probably the most intense movie ever!!! rutger hauer plays one bad ass pychotic bastard!! shock after shock and non stop action all over the place up in this bitch!! we get copious explosions, nasty gunshot wounds, a cop massacre, c. thomas howell trying to be tough, and an ending not to be missed...watch this one if you got the guts!!
