Tom's Review of The World's End
The World's End(2013)
(4 Stars) My all time favorite film of the Edgar Wright's Cornetto trilogy is Hot Fuzz. The World's End is very funny, filled with references, and expertly directed like Shaun of the Dead, but Hot Fuzz seemed to have everything I like about a comedy. TWE features Gary King (Simon Pegg), a fortysomething trapped back in his bright high school days. He wants to relive his golden past, so he gets his friends to go on a bar crawl that concludes at The World's End pub. If it sounds like a British Hangover, it's not. The movie through me for a loop.
One reason I like the movie is that I had no clue it was about (QUICK SPOILER ALERT) body snatchers (END SPOILERS). They did a good job hiding it in the previews... but this is also where I have some problems with the film, but I can't really say them without spoiling it. I will say it's funny, there are some good dramatic moments, the ending is a bit WTF, but there's no reason why you shouldn't see The World's End. I'm pretty sure I laughed at something in nearly every scene.
