Movie Ratings and Reviews

Hamlet 2
Hamlet 2(2008)

I had fun watching this movie. It was funny and scary and a little bit like a 'this could be you' warning all in one.

The Princess Diaries 2 - Royal Engagement

Oh Julie Andrews... you can't sing any more.

The Bourne Ultimatum
½

I love the look and feel of these movies. One of the few sets of trilogies that didn't really disappoint me by the end. They're consistent throughout.

All the King's Men
½

You can tell that this was probably a really great book. And maybe it was great for its time, but some of the acting was odd. I do think some of the performances were stellar, and it makes me interested to see the updated version and read the book.

Dan in Real Life

A simple feel good story. Norbert Leo Butz makes a great addition to the cast. Steve Carell? Not so funny in this, but infinitely likable.

Music and Lyrics

Cute. Funny. Sweet. Nothing that you wouldn't expect... everything you want in a mindless chick flick.

Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day
½

So cute and uplifting. Amy Adams is spot on... and exactly the same as in Enchanted.

Stardust
Stardust(2007)
½

Why did I not see this movie before? I love it!

The Spiderwick Chronicles
½

At least it was better than Bridge to Terabithia... or maybe that's because I didn't read the book.

Gangs of New York

So I'm not into violent movies. But the movie is kind of brilliant. Especially Daniel Day-Lewis... wow.

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

I liked it. It was interestingly different than the stage play. As long as I think of it as an entirely different entity, I really like this movie. Musical is still wayyyyyyy better. But this is cool, interesting, entertaining and a great movie.

The Golden Compass
½

It was o.k. If I paid to see it I'd probably be pissed. The book was so much better. This was laughably bad. Not the actors' fault mostly, just a bad adaptation... probably not much good in the direction department either. Cool cg though.

Persepolis
Persepolis(2007)
½

I really enjoyed this movie. The animation said something and it combined a coming of age story with political drama. It was smart, funny and irreverent. If this movie were a person I'd date it.

Atonement
Atonement(2007)

I wish I could say I love this movie. I can't. It's visually stunning, but that's all I can say for it. Who keeps a haircut for their entire life? Why not hire people who ACT instead of people who look pretty? Why not try not going back and explaining yourself just in case the audience has the intelligence of a fourth grader? It is really visually beautiful though. The shots are great.

Becoming Jane

Lame lame lame lame lame. Good idea... bad execution. It's like a really bad version of Shakespeare in Love. Or perhaps a failed parody, except it's not- it's just sad. It's pretty though. Too bad... I really like Jane Austen books.

Shrek the Third

Eh... but what do you expect after the original?

Accepted
Accepted(2006)
½

I'm mildly embarrassed by how much I enjoyed this movie. A good combination of valid arguments, ridiculous movie logic and good clean (sort of) fun.

Uptown Girls
Uptown Girls(2003)
½

This is so cute. I like it. Don't judge.

Daredevil
Daredevil(2003)
½

I saw this on tv and liked it A LOT more than I expected. I totally got sucked in by the stylized movements.

Juno
Juno(2007)

I finally saw this. I liked it. It didn't end my life. But I liked it.

Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland

I haven't seen this movie since I was a child, but I loved it! I still think about and quote this movie, and it's been more than 10 years since I've seen it.

Heavyweights (Heavy Weights)

I haven't seen this since I was a kid, but I loved it then. It's probably terrible... but I'm sure it's a fun family movie.

Enchanted
Enchanted(2007)

Loved it! It referenced every Disney princess story, and many other Disney movies. A blatant explanation of why Disney princess movie musicals are horrible and wonderful all at once, and a great new masterpiece of musical theatre and animation. Everyone who ever loved Disney should see this. Everyone who bursts spontaneously into song should see this. Knock out cast... with stellar performances by Amy Adams, Idina Menzel and Susan Sarandon (the guys were great too).

Austin Powers in Goldmember

This was a funny movie, but the first two Austin Powers movies were markedly better.

American Gangster
½

This movie was good. I don't enjoy this genre, but there was good character development, some amazing moments and no gratuitous violence or gore. Well done.

Hook
Hook(1991)
½

It's entertaining. It's fun.

Finding Neverland

This is a beautiful film. Acting= beautiful. Direction= beautiful. Yay.

Big Fish
Big Fish(2003)
½

I like it, but I wanted it to be a little more... off. I don't know, less neatly wrapped up. Still it's entertaining. It misses greatness by not going as far as it could.

This is one of my favorites. I absolutely love it. Ahhhmazing.

Almost Famous

I enjoy this movie. I am a golden god. It really touches on human experience.

The Departed
The Departed(2006)

This was a great film. I saw it with classmates, almost all of whom disliked it. My biggest complaint is with inconsistency in accents. If you can't do them, don't. Great movie though.

Thank You for Smoking

This movie is really funny. If Katie Holmes wasn't in it, it would be so much better. Still entertaining.

Rocky
Rocky(1976)
½

It's just not my kind of film.

Casablanca
Casablanca(1942)
½

It's amazing. They just don't write movies this way any more. Plus the acting is amazing. Just watch it, and remember that they're setting you up with the information you need in the first half hour.

Grand Hotel
Grand Hotel(1932)
½

I'm a huge fan of this movie. The development of the characters is beautiful. This movie is super quotable. It's great.

Stairway to Heaven (A Matter of Life and Death)

This movie is a masterpiece. You should see it. Why don't we make movies like this anymore? It definitely benefits from lack of special effects.

The Royal Tenenbaums

This is basically the best movie ever. It's beautiful. The colors, the shots, the humor, the human relations... it's the best.

Newsies
Newsies(1992)
½

This is great. Watch it.

Match Point
Match Point(2005)
½

Hot people, good acting, interesting concept and good twists. Woody Allen, keep on doin' what you do.

Clue
Clue(1985)

This is one of my favorite movies. It is stylized perfectly and every moment has something to offer.

The Last Unicorn
½

A knock out cast with stylized animation and interesting poignant themes. This is one of my favorite animated movies. The singing is abysmal, but it is otherwise an engaging, wonderful tale dealing with many of life's biggest questions.

The Godfather

One of the best movies of all time.

Garden State
Garden State(2004)

I think this really touches on something from our generation.

Connie and Carla

This movie is a must for musical theatre lovers, and almost everyone else. It's just really entertaining.

The Birdcage
The Birdcage(1996)

I love this movie. It's outrageous and funny, but it manages to use real human relations and emotions.

Annie Hall
Annie Hall(1977)

This is an amazing film. A must see.

28 Days Later
½

This movie was beautifully shot. I don't like violence or blood, but this is a beautiful movie. I think it could have been even more interesting if it focused even more on the human aspect.

The Incredibles
½

I love the concept of this movie.

The Notebook
The Notebook(2004)

It's entertaining, it's got a great plot twist. It's idealistic and romantic. It's- a chick flick.

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
½

By far the best of the Pirates of the Carribean movies.

Love Actually

An amazing movie. Period.

Mean Girls
Mean Girls(2004)

Once again, I don't get the hype.

Hitch
Hitch(2005)

It's funny in a really crass way.

10 Things I Hate About You
½

What can I say? I grew up on this movie. It's the best.

Pretty Woman
Pretty Woman(1990)
½

A classic chick flick, but it's not actually GOOD.

E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial
½

This is a great movie, but I was terrified of it as a child.

Gladiator
Gladiator(2000)

This is a good movie. The music is good, even if it is stolen from the Planets.

Bruce Almighty
½

This movie was funny, cute and moving.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
½

This movie is alright, but like so many other movies, the book far surpasses it.

Shrek 2
Shrek 2(2004)
½

It was cute, but it lacks the brilliance of the first.

Kill Bill: Volume 1

I don't get the hype over this movie.

Mr. & Mrs. Smith

It was exactly what you want from this kind of film: hot people, lots of action and passion.

The Matrix
The Matrix(1999)

Cool idea, neat costumes, a good use for bad acting. Entertaining.

Spider-Man
Spider-Man(2002)

It's exactly what you expect.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe

This just didn't compare to the book. It was cool, but it just missed too much to do it for me.

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
½

I like this movie, but the book is much better.

Wedding Crashers

Why does this movie get quoted so often? Why?!

Ace Ventura: Pet Detective

I know a lot of people love this movie. I'm not a Jim Carey fan.

The Ring
The Ring(2002)
½

As far as 'scary movies' go it's fine.

American Pie
American Pie(1999)

It is perverted, immature and unapologetic. That's alright by me.

Titanic
Titanic(1997)
½

I don't think I have the desire to see it again, but I saw it four times in theaters. I know, I know.

Donnie Darko
Donnie Darko(2001)

The original is much better than the director's cut.
