I give two and a half stars to Paul Giamatti, Ed Westwick, and Lesly Manville. It's disappointing that the two leads carry such weak delivery. What is the point of a Shakespearean film if the poetry is spoken flat and without emphasis from the two main characters? Franco Zeffirelli's version still holds true. As a great fan of "Romeo & Juliet", I can't help but compare the scenes in my mind. This film unfortunately doesn't cut it for me.
Beautiful costumes. Beautiful people. But, somehow hard to connect to each and every character, especially that of Dunst. Austrians have American accents?
A group meets at a local diner spot with half the people knowing each other, the others just meeting-- a perfect example of how a bond is really formed and whats always been a lie.
I like this movie. I don't know, I guess it really reminded me of my past friendships, and the way it related to many real lives-- it was just that. Real.
