Deepa Mehta never fails... now making a movie based on such a wonderful book by Salman Rushdie, and with an impeccable cast of stellar actors, incredible music, rich and luscious images, this is, by far, one of the best movies I have watched this year, and it is on Netflix... Loved it so much and cried a few times as this was profound and beautiful.
It took me 14 years to watch this movie mainly because I am not a big fan of SH. Nonetheless, I have to agree this is a great production, with a great cast and wonderful music. I wonder how much more awesome it would have been in Spanish... it was hard for me as a native Spanish speaker to relate to the story in their fake thick accents speaking English... overall it think it was a good ride into the world of Mexican culture to the masses.
What can I say? Of course I will enjoy many components in this movie (never watched any of the series before and actually confused it with SRK's Don...) while the choreographies and dancers were breathtaking, I have to admit the story felt very androcentric even though it had a twist. i did FF pieces of it.
Pretty sick and sadly accurate...
