Script and storyline faithful, but strangely low-energy adaptation of the Tony-winning Broadway show goes through the paces adequately, but drops the ball as a true crowd pleaser. Still the music and the episodically presented events should prove infectious for fans, while possibly not winning over anyone new. Clint Eastwood handles the drama fine, but can't manage to even put the camera in the right place when it comes to the musical numbers. And don't even get me started on the "nice try, but" botched attempt at a curtain call finale....
Sweet, thoroughly entertaining slice of life about a restaurant chef who quits to go out on his own in the food truck business. Jon Favreau reminds us all why we fell in love with him and his filmic voice back with SWINGERS in 1997.
Marginally better than the very mediocre original, this one benefits from a fun family culture clash storyline and vibrant character & background animation that is a treat even when the plot hits autopilot.
