A day later and I'm still not sure how I feel about it.

House at the End of the Street

Don't lie to me in the beginning, and try to pass it off as a plot twist in the end. Def not a "horror" movie, it tows the Lifetime drama line for over an hour. If you're gonna feed me this BS, show me some more skin #JenniferLawrence

Midnight in Paris

If i was an American lit major this would be the best movie ever made. I'm not.

Thoroughly fucking retarded. One of the worst endings of all-time. A kick in the groin would be less painful. (i.e. "Get down! let's climb up and get a better view"

Words could not describe how ridiculous this was. Simply stunning.

The Taqwacores

No more movies about the Muslim punk rock scene..yikes. Where's my Bible?

Inside Job
Inside Job(2010)

Fair as I could have expected. The world is about money.

If I have a dream that I'm trapped in a fucking box, I'm gonna be pissed.

That was about ridiculous.

Hot Tamale
Hot Tamale(2006)

Diora Baird = 10, everything else = 2. The guy is supposed to be a drummer but has clearly never held a drumstick in his life. Also, I'm apparently the first one to ever actually watch this.

The Town
The Town(2010)

I could go on about how I loved this movie, but since it was nearly flawless I'll list my 2 complains. Jon Hamm was unconvincing as the lead FBI agent, and the ending was obviously predictable. On the plus side, the robbery scenes were amazing and they kept Blake Lively to a minimum!

Soul Food
Soul Food(1997)

Really fond memories of this movie, and to a greater extent the soundtrack, from high school. Re-watching it now the movie is average, but the music is still spectacular. They don't make them like they used to.

The Killer Inside Me

Those overly offended by the violence must not watch today's horror movies. There were some major holes in the plot that really irritated me, and as everyone says the ending was rough. Overall, not a bad film. I'd bet the book provided everything the film needed, but was lost in translation.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time

Better than I expected. The story was a real stretch at times, but enough humor mixed in to keep it interesting. Plenty of the usual sword-fighting action, if that's your thing. Gemma Arterton was amazing and made the movie for me.

State of Play

Jason Bateman steals the show. Ben Affleck still isn't believable. Rachel McAdams is still hot. And Russell Crowe needs to lose some poundage. Good political action with one too many twists, just for the sake of twisting.

The Girl Who Played with Fire (Flickan som lekte med elden)

Those two hours felt like four. Dull and so slowly paced. The first was way better, and hoping the third will be too.

Solitary Man
Solitary Man(2010)

Two of my favorites, Mary-Louise Parker and Jenna Fischer, didn't disappoint. Michael Douglas carried the movie though, since the film hinged on his characters performance. He's truly an asshole but doesn't come off abrasive. Imogen Poots was impressive too.

The Client
The Client(1994)

Haven't seen this since I was a teenager. As good as I remember. Great performances from everyone. Wish there had been more in the way of courtroom drama, instead of the kid being chased through the morgue etc, which seemed like kind of a reach. Dialogue was spot on.

High Tension (Switchblade Romance)

True to it's title the tension is high throughout. I didn't have any problem with the movie until the 'twist' is revealed at the end. This could have easily been a quality movie without this attempt at being too clever. Pity.

The Six Wives of Henry Lefay

Surprisingly boring and uninteresting, considering the cast. Tim Allen plays an obnoxious, childish jerk which does nothing for the movie. The only redeeming quality was Elisha Cuthbert, who as usual was amazing and looked great doing it. And the back of the DVD cover gives away the entire thing so, thumbs down. Extra star for Elisha.

Night of the Demons

The guys in this movie could not act their was out of a paper bag. The ladies did a decent job though (Except for Monica Keena. I've seen her work and this was by far the worst). And the story was a stretch to say the least. All that is secondary to Shannon Elizabeth and Diora Baird because they were ridiculously hot. I will forever think of Ms Elizabeth whenever I see another wine bottle.

Paranormal Activity 2

Just as scary as the first but without the novelty. They tied the stories together; I can understand why but it didn't do much for the story. A completely new cast, setting etc would have been better off IMO. Regardless, still good and had me listening for strange noises when I got home!

Whatever Works

Huge Larry David fan, loved some of Woody Allen's recent works, but this didn't 'work' for me. The story is all over the place and gets more muddled as it drags on. ERW was the lone bright spot in every way. Larry David played so far opposite of her, he came off so negative it was obnoxious. I'll stick to LD and Allen's other work, but I will be checking out more of Evan Rachel Wood.

Admittedly I'm not usually a vampire movie fan. Beyond Twilight (ya, I know) there hasn't been any I cared for. But this was one gangster vampire flick. A totally original take on the genre. Plenty of action, clever plot, and even a cheap scare or too. Also, Claudia Karvan was smoking hot.

Entirely practical in nearly every way. From how they end up stranded, to their attempts to escape. All of their actions got the same response from me; "that's exactly what I would do". Usually these movies are filled with ridiculous situations and outlandish decisions, but not Frozen. 94 minutes but a quick enough pace that it never drags. Worth checking out.

Let the Right One In

Best vampire movie ever? I don't think so. I've seen plenty and nearly all of them were more exciting than this. I took nearly nothing positive away from watching this, and I'll probably be avoiding the American remake because of it.

The 9th Company (9 rota)

Much of the movie seemed unnecessary. While I understand the need to show them training and preparing for war, it wasn't done well. The movie shines when the firefights begin, unfortunately it takes too long to get there.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

A bit long for me, especially at the beginning and the end. I used the English dubbing but I think it came off very well done. I think I could have read the book in less time though. Hope the American remake doesn't totally screw it up.

The Last Song

Watching it with my 8-year-old helped me look past most of the corny, cringe-worthy moments, but trust me there were plenty. Provides some good situations to talk to your children about, but as an movie just for adults I can't recommend it. Stick with the Notebook!

Violent, funny, Lindsay Lohan naked. Only the latter of those is groundbreaking for me, but still a good combination.

The Square
The Square(2010)

The twists nearly all involved under-developed characters that looked so much alike it was hard to tell them apart; much less care about them. Those Aussie's are nearly as hard to understand as the English, but I don't hold it against the film. What I do hold against it was the lack of a real payoff. And no explanation for the demise of the DOG!

Piranha 3-D
Piranha 3-D(2010)

By far the weakest quality 3D picture I've seen, in both senses. Save for a scene or two the 3rd dimension adds nothing but $4.00 to the price of the ticket. The story itself aims to be campy and succeeds on some levels, but still is pretty boring for what it offers. I guess if I wanted more Riley Steele, I was watching the wrong movie anyway.

Remember Me
Remember Me(2010)

A remarkably boring, painfully oversensitive 130 minutes. I spent half that time finishing the characters lines or rolling my eyes. A tease of excitement halfway through that quickly subsided. All leading up to a surprisingly good ending that wasn't enough to save it. Also, Pattinson didn't completely embarrass himself.

Not bad for a 4 am movie.

Solid mix of humor and action, with some truly Kick-Ass violence towards the end. Hit Girl was one bad ass little chick.

The Other Guys

Will Ferrell is hit or miss lately, but this was hilarious. Gotta love Adam McKay movies. Didn't have high expectations for this but I was wrong. You can't have a conscience in the pimp game.

Date Night
Date Night(2010)

Works solely due to the performances by Steve and Tina. The script didn't give them much to work with but it wasn't bad. Mark Wahlberg and JB Smoove have memorable roles, but the real star is the Audi R8. Whoa.

Step Up 3
Step Up 3(2010)

This is a rarity. I thought this movie was much better than the 2nd, which was much better than the original. Storyline is good considering. There are only a handful of corny moments. But there is plenty of dancing that is more than impressive. And definitely the first time 3D has ever done anything positive for a movie I've seen. Bad ass

The Runaways
The Runaways(2010)

Whoa now, where did Dakota Fanning come from? She may be 16 but she did a great job & looked damn good doing it. Michael Shannon puts in a great performance too. Having never heard of The Runaways before, I learned enough about the band. Those more 70s rock inclined may find they didn't learn anything new though.

Pretty predictable as far as spy movies go but I love me some Angie Jo. She kicks ass and takes names, which is why I'd expect most people would want to see this anyway.

Facing the Giants

The message is on point, but for once I wish they could make a Christian movie that wasn't over the top corny. The acting is serviceable at best. The last 30 minutes are almost condescending to the viewer with how they approach it. You can see the ending coming a mile away, and it's not done well enough to make you want to watch it.

Killer Movie
Killer Movie(2008)

If you're watching this for Leighton Meester you need only the first 5 minutes. Otherwise, the story starts out convoluted and messy. The reveal of the killer is underwhelming, at best. And along the way the kills are not only pointless, but tame. Busto.

I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell

The first hour was nearly unwatchable, I almost had to shut it down. Not a laugh to be had. Jesse Bradford was dreadful with his delivery; totally contrived (he couldn't land a spot in any Bring It On sequels?). Luckily I held on because the last 40 minutes were much improved. Not enough to save the movie but pretty damn funny.

Carrie-Anne Moss' character was so annoying it basically ruined the entire thing for me. Every 5 minutes shes screaming about legality and the Constitution; it gets so very repetitive. Samuel L did a great job, but the story was drawn out and boring until the end. Unfortunately, they found a way to screw that up too.

Dirty Deeds
Dirty Deeds(2005)

Ridiculous and plot holes galore. But with Lacey Chabert and Arielle Kebbel, I'm not complaining too much.

Ramona and Beezus

Kept the corny moments to a minimum. Great family movie. Selena Gomez was superbly charming. Can't wait to see what she works on in the future.

Down Periscope

Funny but not hilarious. Lauren Holly was lookin good. Prepare to dive !!

Saint John of Las Vegas

Not completely bad, but boring and utterly pointless. Never seems to be a good reason for their journey and it's not a fun ride. Luckily it's a short movie. Emmanuelle Chriqui only had about 4 minutes of screen time!

Tell-Tale (Tell Tale)

I've never seen a movie with more mumbling. I had to turn the TV all the way up and still couldn't hear some of it. But of course, the Blu-Ray didn't have any subtitles! Regardless, a boring plot that didn't make much sense to begin with. Ending was a nice surprise but not enough to save the movie.

She's Out of My League

I didn't give Alice Eve the credit she deserved. As the movie goes on and she isn't completely dolled up all the time, she gets hotter and plays the role perfectly. Not up there with the best comedies but just a notch below. Hit and miss in some parts, but overall pretty damn funny.

Brooklyn's Finest

It's like a reunion of The Wire but not nearly as good. Gere was boring; Cheadle is terrible in any gangster type role; Ethan Hawke worked with what he was given. All their stories lead to the same place in the end, but that doesn't make it a good finish.

All the potential in the world but it ended up being, of all things, boring! The action took too long to get going. Seyfried is a lukewarm villain at best, but I place the blame on the script. Worth watching just for the Moore/Seyfried scenes but could have been so much more.

The more I think about it, the more I liked it. A movie that makes you think, but every part of the movie has a purpose. It's not complicated for the sake of being complicated. Kick ass story, amazing special effects, and an ending that actually worked. A couple lines had me rolling my eyes but overall pleasantly surprised.

It's an amazing and sad story. This focused mostly on her early life and rise to fame. Only a few short minutes are spent on her death and there is very little detail on it. If that's what you're looking to learn more about you won't find it here. That being said, they did a hell of a job casting this thing.

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse

It is not better than the first, let that be known. The action (when there is any) is good but those scenes are few and far between. Mostly there's just plenty of talking; between Bella and Edward, Bella and Jacob, Edward and Jacob, all three of them. Dragged on laboriously at time, but what can you do? Anna Kendrick and Ashley Greene were hot hot.

Poetic Justice

The last of Tupac's movies I hadn't seen, but he was as spectacular as usual. Janet Jackson held her own, but I think the women in this movie spent half the time brushing their braids behind their head. Predictable story but they take a few stops along the way to keep it interesting. RIP Tupac.

I Hate Valentine's Day

Wow, Nia was so hot in My Life In Ruins...AV Club put it best; she was "wearing a terrifying perma-smile that suggests she?s either high on ecstasy, a cult leader, or the victim of plastic surgery gone horribly awry". Her acting was a little rough here too. Second half wasn't as bad but yikes. I need to monitor my Netflix queue more closely.

Command Performance

This was what I expected, just not done as well as I expected. For a straight kick ass action flick it wasn't very exciting. And did Dolph Lundgren have like what, 10 lines in this whole thing?

Into the Blue 2: The Reef

Laura Vandervoort may not win any Oscars but she is fine as hell. I'd take her over Jessica Alba anyday. Been awhile since I saw the first Into the Blue, but I don't remember it being any better than this sequel. I'd imagine this would look great on Blu-ray. And Audrina's 90 seconds of screen time seemed so awkward and out of place.

Run Fatboy Run

Something about Simon Pegg movies, they always just miss the mark. Had a pretty good set up to be hilarious but not quite there. Had it's moments and dragged at the end. Thandie Newton looks somewhat black to me, but the kid was white as day. A little odd but oh well.

The Uninvited

A plot twist that actually delivered. It's best to go into this knowing as little as possible. The more I think about it the more I appreciate this movie. A second watch is probably needed to see how well this was done. And Emily Browning, hot.

When in Rome
When in Rome(2010)

The premise is obviously ridiculous, even for a romantic comedy. But if you can get past that it's pretty damn funny. Dax Shepard of all people had me cracking up as the wannabe model.

Toy Story 3
Toy Story 3(2010)

Honestly started a little slow for me and I was worried. Somewhere along the way it picked up and hit it's stride. A near perfect ending, well done.

Definitely a little out there, but hey I guess heroin can do that to you! I'm not sure this had much of a point, but if you like watching people get hopped up on drugs, try and kick, then get high again, enjoy! I couldn't understand some of their English accents for the life of me.

Marmaduke isn't cute and cuddly but still likable. Great cast of actors lend their voices. Not funny enough for me but my 7 year old enjoyed it enough. Good family flick.

This delivers what is says it will. My real problem was that a reason behind his actions was never clearly established. Hints are provided, but even if that was his motivation it was weak reasoning to say the least. Had this guy really had a reason to be pissed off, this may have packed a bigger punch. Instead, shock value theater IMO.

Tupac: Assassination

Having read and seen basically all Tupac material out there, this still introduced some information I hadn't heard before. While the incompetence of all law enforcement (LVPD here's looking at you) involved is known across the board, there is still a fair share of finger pointing. Draw your own conclusions but check this doc out first. RIP Pac

Wild Things: Foursome

About what I expected. The girls were not as hot, and Ashley Parker Angel can't act his way out of a wet paper bag. Otherwise, not too bad. About 10 plot twists in the last 10 minutes. The Blu-ray quality was low, might as well have been a DVD.

Shutter Island

I had this figured out about half way through, I just didn't know it until the very end. Well told and never really tips it's hat. Not a cheap ending. DiCaprio and Ruffalo are superb.

Dear John
Dear John(2010)

The Notebook it is not. The first 100 minutes are actually very good. The leads are real and likable, although I don't think you're ever emotionally invested in either. The last 25 minutes were so out there, the ending so random it through the entire story off. Even the alternate ending was a dud. This had so much going for it, but they couldn't deliver on what should have been a slam dunk finale.

The Stranger
The Stranger(2010)

Borderline unwatchable. All of Stone Cold's other action flicks may be average, but they're 10X better than this. Flashbacks galore, I could not wait for them to spill the beans on the ending. Not because I needed to know, I just wanted it to be over. Adam Beach might as well have been reading off cue cards. I'd guess the only reason anyone would watch this is Austin, so just skip it and check out one of his others.

I hate to see a hilarious movie like this get disregarded because all the past SNL movies have been awful. MacGruber kept me laughing the whole time. It's a stupid humor that is an acquired taste, but almost all the jokes were spot on. I may even start carrying around my car radio with me everywhere I go!

Pride and Glory

It's a good story that's told in a much too confusing fashion. I spent half the time trying to make sure I knew who was who, just to keep up. It didn't break any ground as far as a cop film goes, but good performances from Norton and Farrell.

Storm Warning

This was truly one of the worst movies I've seen in years. The acting is horrid. The cliche of stupid horror protagonists is taken to the n'th degree here. There are literally zero scary scenes. If you like dogs tears through genitalia give this a shot, otherwise stay far, far away.

Before the Devil Knows You're Dead

Usually when a movie attempts to relay events out of sequence something gets screwed up along the way. Lumet did this to perfection. Whether switching time, scene or character, one transitions perfectly to the next. Performances are mean, especially PSH. Tomei and Amy Ryan are icing on the cake. Best thriller I've seen this year perhaps.

The Road
The Road(2009)

This is a long, slow, lonely Road. The atmosphere is amazing and looks superb. The story however, drags on with only hints of action scattered throughout. Having loved No Country For Old Men, I suppose I was due to dislike this one.

After finishing this I decided it was different, but not at all bad. Upon reading many other reviews (including Ebert) I can see where everyone is coming from. If you don't take your movies too seriously,, this isn't a bad way to spend 90 minutes. I do wonder how they can do so many drugs and still stand around and talk the way they do! Dane Cook, while normally not, is hilarious in his limited role.

Wedding Daze
Wedding Daze(2006)

One stop on my I love Isla Fisher movie marathon. She was bright and likable, while the movie wasn't bad itself. We aren't bombarded with bad jokes, it stays at a decent pace and is above what probably most expect. I'd prefer any actor over Biggs but Isla more than made up for it.

The Reader
The Reader(2008)

I'll be honest I only watched this for Kate Winslet, and that's saying a lot considering it clocks in at over 2 hours. It wasn't all bad, just the opposite of what I'd consider my type of movie.

Crazy Heart
Crazy Heart(2009)

Starts off with a solid story, despite being a little slow it's still entertaining enough. Things get going towards the end of the film, and while there isn't really a definite ending, it tells the story it wants to tell very well.

The Bucket List

In what is all set up to be a sappy, formulaic piece of junk; I was blown away! Yes the sappy part remains, but the story was touching and down right entertaining. Yes it's sad and for sure a downer in many ways, but I personally loved the script and Jack & Morgan killed it as usual.

Hot Rod
Hot Rod(2007)

One of my favorite movies as of late, this is quotable for days! It is hilarious all around, none of the characters are obnoxious or out of place. I've officially fallen in love with Isla Fisher. All around good stuff.

Edge of Darkness

Well the preview I read left out the "intersection of politics and big business" line as stated above. To me, that is what ruined the movie. Had they kept the story simple and sent Mel off to solve the crime, I imagine this would have been much better. Instead, it gets bogged down in it's never-ending storyline.

The Messenger

This movie has seemingly flown under everyone's radar, but it was incredible. There's no political agenda here (thank God) it just tells an amazing story with great acting all around. One of this year's best.

The Last House on the Left

Not so sure this is horror, but more brutal thriller. Still had plenty of suspense and action, all the way to the end. Not great but surprisingly not bad either. Above average

How to Lose Friends & Alienate People

Pretty funny, but not overly hilarious. Interesting enough story, and Megan Fox of course is worth watching on mute. Jeff Bridges nails his role as usual. And for the first time since Bring It On Kirsten Dunst was tolerate.

The Lookout
The Lookout(2007)

Superbly cast and acted .The characters, both good and bad, are well developed and you will genuinely care about most of them. None of the usual pitfalls that can ruin this type of movie pop up. I was surprised and relieved to watch a well done, below the radar thriller. Isla Fisher was super hot too, super super hot.

My Sister's Keeper

I was led to believe the court case would be the focus of the movie. Through many, many flashbacks it focuses more on the life and illness of the girl. Had I know that I probably would have stayed away from this one. Regardless, the story is decent enough. You can see the ending coming, so while it's obviously sad it won't ruin your night. I wish a lesser known actress could have taken the lead part. Watching Cameron Diaz cry was just not convincing for me.

The kids followed in this film range from hyperactive (and nuts), to creepy, to relatively normal. One girl just likes to spell because she's damn good at it. While it makes for decent entertainment, it can get quite dull and tedious. A doc about spelling, tedious? Surprise. It is funny how the hometown signs put up to support their local spellers, are quite often misspelled themselves.

Iron Man 2
Iron Man 2(2010)

Had everything that made the first one great, just not at as high of a level. The new cast members were good, but I could have used more ScarJo. Garry Shandling was hilarious as the Senator. I love 2 hour movies that don't feel like 2 hours.

Couples Retreat

Started off slow and had all the makings of the bomb I expected it to be. Once they hit the island though things settle down. Love to see Vaughn and Favreau together, hilarious. Kristen Bell in a bikini half the time, not so bad either.

Leap Year
Leap Year(2010)

The entire story, including the ending, was obvious before I even put the Blu-Ray in. These films make it or break it with the story telling, and this one just didn't deliver. Amy Adams did a fine job as usual but there was nothing romantic or comedic about this. It wasn't all bad though. Colbie Caillat has a great song that plays with the credits.

Stan Helsing
Stan Helsing(2009)

I may be the only one who thinks this, but I this movie was funny as hell. From the opening scene I was cracking up. The stupid jokes in these movies are hit or miss (usually miss) but almost all of these were spot on. This will naturally be compared to the Scary Movie series, but save for SM2 this surpasses them all. Desi and Diora were damn easy on the eyes too!

The Descent 2

While it lacks the originality and wide release of the first, I was more than happy with what it did give. It still came with some good scares, creepy cave-dwellers and picked up where the original left off. A little disappointed they didn't bother to release this on Blu-ray. My only real problem with the actual movie is the blood. Absolutely the brightest red blood I've ever seen; qutie distracting. Otherwise, while it's not the original it's still bad ass.

Drag Me to Hell

Possibly the scariest PG-13 movie I've ever seen. I damn near jumped out of my seat plenty of times. Demons and spirits have never been my cup of tea. While that had something to do with it, this really was a breath of fresh air when it comes to horror. Bonus: Alison Lohman looks just like Jenna Fischer in almost every scene.

It's Complicated

I wouldn't say this is a comedy for adults, it's more like a comedy for seniors (no offense). It's filled to the brim with cheesy lines, fake emotion and manufactured coincidences. My eyes were rolling at a very high rate. John Krasinski and about two scenes were the only parts of this I enjoyed. Very slow, took about 90 minutes to get going. Thought I would have liked it, just not my thing.

Definitely, Maybe

I want to start out by giving this credit for being smarter than the usual rom-com. It's doesn't paint-by-numbers and you won't figure out the ending until they let the cat out of the bag. It keeps the secret by having the story bounce around all over the place, but that's not detrimental. Some of the info told to the 11-year-old seems a bit inappropriate but I'm nitpicking. Definitely, refreshing.

A Nightmare on Elm Street

Oh goodness, where to begin. The dialogue was dreadful and laughable at times. The scares, for lack of a better term, rely solely on trying to make you jump out of your seat. They never even attempt to get inside your head and truly frighten. The difference between the dreams and reality are kindly color coated for us, removing any uncertainty. I nearly did fall asleep watching this. I'm willing to bet the Freddy in my dreams is better than what I saw on the screen.

The Cottage
The Cottage(2008)

I've seen enough comedy/horror flicks t know a good one when I see one. Too bad this was lacking two things; comedy and horror. Funny moments can be counted on one hand. Scary moments can be counted with my index finger. Simply put this was boring, boring, boring. I just don't understand the praise and comparisons it receives. If it wasn't for eye candy Jennifer Ellison I doubt I could have made it to the end.

Corky Romano
Corky Romano(2001)

The funny moments are few and far between. I'm being generous with my 2 1/2 stars. I can't say I didn't like it but it was a close call.

The Tooth Fairy

Not as bad as some of his other films, but it's sad to see the Rock standing around in pink tights. I'd imagine he could have a successful movie career if he was a little more selective in his roles. Regardless, my 7 year old thought this was hilarious and I sat through it just fine. Good enough for me.

The Lovely Bones

I was on the fence for most of this film, trying to figure out if I liked it or not. One scene near the end really sealed it for me. Some say the "in between" scenes are cheesy but I thought they looked great. Something about the entire project is a little off, but that could easily be one of it's best attributes. Opinions will differ on whether the ending really hit the spot. I'd expect those with kids to have a different view than those without.

I'll be honest, I feel a little tricked by the plot line. It's a great set up for a kick ass action flick, but the final act falls flat and drags on. It never delivers on what it seemed to promise. So many ways the filmmakers could have taken this, they just picked the wrong route. Outlandish, bold and action packed is what I expected. I ended up just being glad it was only 88 minutes long.

Facing Ali
Facing Ali(2009)

Plenty of great video and interviews with as many as 10 of Ali's prior opponents. Not surprisingly many of their comments are subtitled, as you would have no clue what they were saying otherwise. A good portion of the time was dedicated to the personal stories of said opponents. While some were quite interesting, they were ultimately unrelated to the main story of Ali's career. For those with a greater knowledge of the man than me, this may be retreading the tires.

Disneynature Oceans

I'll be honest, I spent movie of the time watching Oceans having flashbacks to The Cove. This didn't effect my opinion on the movie, but if you saw The Cove first you know what I mean. Regardless, Oceans was amazing and adorable at the same time. Many animals and their habits I have never seen or heard of before. Didn't appreciate the global warming references, but the details on oceanic pollution was eye opening. My 7 year old fell asleep towards the end, but for me it was worth a look.

Rocket Science

Thankfully this was not your paint-by-numbers indie comedy. It was funny and witty. Unlike most in this drama, you never really know where the story is going to take you or how it will end up. Anna Kendrick and her 'baby fat' was as good as she was in Up In The Air. The main characters stutter can really wear on your nerves, but it's also key to the tone of the movie. Very different!

The Shortcut
The Shortcut(2009)

Well, they took a silly plot, with a silly villain(s) and a silly payoff and somehow managed to make it at least a little creepy. With an added twist at the end that did absolutely nothing for the movie. More like a "gotcha! see you didn't have this completely figured out" kind of deal. I wouldn't have even bothered if it wasn't for Katrina Bowden. I should just stick to 30 Rock.

A few laughs, a few scares but not enough of either. A couple of the funnier gags are set up really well, although if you're paying attention you will see them coming. No complaints here I just didn't see anything special about it.

Decent underground fight scene movie. The acting wasn't half bad considering what many might expect. Stone Cold holds his own in the fight scenes, but some are average at best. What I would have given to see him finish someone off with a Stunner. Vandervoort provides the eye candy. Goggins is creepy in every way possible, not a good thing. All-in-all a decent fight flick.

Wrong Side of Town

This would go down as all-time worst if there wasn't that small bit of entertainment value. The acting is horrid, with plenty of one-liners that will leave you in stitches (unintentionally). Batista doesn't even make his appearance until 52 minutes in, although he does the best acting of the group. Ja Rule couldn't have been paid more than $200 for his 3 minutes of screen time. All the other actors seemed miscast (especially RVD's wife). The bright side is you absolutely know what you're getting into.

Everybody's Fine

Not generally the type of movie I'd watch, so I must say I'm not 100% familiar with the formula. A fairly slow build-up finally pays off to reveal all the secrets it's been hiding. Even Drew Barrymore couldn't ruin this one for me, worth checking out.

In the Loop
In the Loop(2009)

All the quick quick witted insults and clever dialogue couldn't make this interesting. Even as a fan of political comedies this never took off for me. Plenty of chuckles here and there. Well written but boring to say the least.

I'm not sure I've ever been more pleasantly surprised with ANY film, no matter the budget. This was absolutely hilarious and I wanted to re-watch it right away. The deadpan comedy is perfect. Jenna does a great job delivering the same Office-type humor without channeling any remnants of Pam. This is more like 64 minutes long, and worth every second.

The Losers
The Losers(2010)

Plenty of action but I still didn't start liking this one until about half way through. Enough comedy along with the action put together a pretty decent package. Not a fan of Zoe Saldana, would have preferred someone else there.

Vertical Limit

The special effects range from awful to incredible. Plenty of action but the lulls in between drag this on for what seems like eternity. Every time I hear Bill Paxson speak I look out for a tornado. Get rid of the sappy background story and shorten this movie and it could have killed.

The Collector

My favorite horror movie since the Descent, this is what Saws II-VI could have been. Some clever (and some not so clever) kills and traps. One still has me checking my ear every few minutes to make sure it's okay. The ending had one too many extra turns to it. The alternative ending may have been more satisfying in some twisted way. Pleasantly surprised!

The Slammin' Salmon

I don't see how anyone can say this is funnier than Super Troopers with a straight face. Not to say it is bad, it just won't go down as a classic. Good to see all the BL crew in different roles. Unlike most, this gets funnier as it goes on. A few memorable lines. Mediocre is not bad for this type of film, but mediocre it is.

God Grew Tired Of Us

It is amazing what these men (or boys) went through just to get to where they are today. When the men make it to the United States, it is rather humorous to see how hard the transition is from a Sudanese culture, to all the amenities and the culture of America. Although you will quickly feel bad for laughing. These men should be proud of what they accomplished and how they turned that into positives for their people.

Primal Fear
Primal Fear(1996)

Long-winded to say the least. As usual, all the attorneys in this type of movie are too smart for their own good. Plenty of twists and turns keep you guessing (or thoroughly confused) until the truth is finally revealed. If you need constant action, do not bother.

The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day

Very similar to the first but contained a few elements that made it better. Julie Benz fills the huge void of the smart, sexy female. Also the humor that the first one lacked was ever present. Quite the kick ass flick and worth checking out if you liked the original.

The Cove
The Cove(2009)

This is by far the most heartbreaking documentary, possibly movie in general, I have ever seen. The movie transitions seemlessly throughout. Why they're on their mission; background info on the dolphins and those dedicated to saving them; explanations of why dolphin meat can be so dangerous. It all leads up to the final, sickening finale. Through all of these volunteers hard work, we are shown a graphic, disturbing, first hand look at the slaughter of thousands of defenseless creatures. There is one final act by Mr. O'Barry in efforts to draw attention to this massacre, but the horror of it's preceding act is still hanging overhead. This is one of those rare movies that bothers the hell out of you when you watch it, and will do the same when you wake the next day. I hope it brings change.

Let me say first, I'm not a fan of the time loop, time bending genre. It's more of a novelty to me. That said, the first 30 minutes of Triangle started off with great promise. Had this been a straight slasher movie, it really could have killed (sorry i know). But as it would seem, they basically shot 40 minutes of film, then relooped it in the necessary order to tell the story. Unfortunately, a story which really never came together.

Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans

A good copy gone awful...and beyond. Nicolas Cage redeems himself with shades of Leaving Las Vegas. Plenty of times he is over the top, but that is exactly what this role calls for. His chemistry with Mendes works most of the time, but not all. The plot starts with a main story and strays from there, heading off in multiple directions. This is never a problem though, the movie is good enough to go which ever direction it wants.

American Virgin

At at time when the standard "late night comedy" is pretty bad, this reminds me of the days when the average late night comedy was that, average. The acting is obviously lacking on many fronts. The story is semi-original. The girls are nothing to write home about. There are plenty worse than this. Not a waste of 88 minutes.

The Boondock Saints

My all means a cult phenom, it's lacking a little something that would make it a cult classic. I can't quite put my finger on that something but it's missing. The action is intense and the characters are strong and unique. Maybe Dafoe as a bad ass cop that wasn't teh ghey could have put it over the top.

Charlie Wilson's War

This all came before my time, but from what I've read the movie ran pretty accurately. I don't think the victory was mainly due to Mr Wilson but he did quite a service. Hoffman, Amy Adams and Hanks all were excellent in their roles. I think this shows why the rebuilding efforts in Iraq & Afghanistan are so important now. If you ignore them, they can come back 100X harder.

District 9
District 9(2009)

Seriously disturbing, when you look at the morality of individuals, races, countries, planets. The special effects were superb. Done well enough you need need to take a break and remind yourself this isn't real, it just ran too seamlessly. Everyone can draw their own conclusion as to the true moral of the movie, but don't let that keep you from enjoying a bad ass movie.

The Rocker
The Rocker(2008)

Pretty funny, but I hate the School of Rock comparisons. Cast was great. Rainn, Applegate, Bradley Cooper, Jane's K and Lynch. The blu-ray has some really funny extras.

A Serious Man

Dark and subtly funny. I have to admit I probably didn't get most of the Jewish references that weren't explained out right. The ending requires a little thought and it will probably take me a few days to reach any conclusion. As usual with the Coen Brothers, good but comes in from left field!

The Box
The Box(2009)

Everything about this movie is preposterous. A bunch of silly ideas (aliens, disfigured feet, wind tunnels) all tossed into one, and a majority of it they never bother to explain. Cameron Diaz should take that awful southern accent she made up and put THAT in a box somewhere, forever.

The book was a hard read, to say the least. But I thought the movie did a pretty accurate job at portraying the source material. James Mason played Humbert superbly, but still a little creepy considering the situation.

Hot Tub Time Machine

By far the funniest movie of the year. Some may call it "Mindless" but I just call it "hilarious". They nailed the ending on this one too. Not sure why there was a 10 year old in front of me at the theater, but oh well!

Top Secret!
Top Secret!(1984)

In my opinion not in the same league as Airplane! and the Naked Gun series. Plenty of parts got a laugh but nothing too memorable, besides the cow walking around in boots lol. Still a must watch for the genre.

Smash Cut
Smash Cut(2009)

Obviously the only reason you would watch this is Sasha Grey. I get that it's a B movie and is supposed to be silly, campy etc. But I can think of a better way to spend 85 minutes with Sasha Grey.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid

The main character really does come off as a jerk, atleast to adults who pay attention. My 7 year old got a kick out of the gross out jokes etc. Different from the usual animated junk I usually have to sit through. Not bad at all.

The Twilight Saga: New Moon

Never shows the IT factor that the original had. Seems more like a segway between the first and the third. The ending was just terrible but not a bad dose of meds to keep the Twilight fans happy for awhile.

Up in the Air

A fresh, thoughtful storyline with superb acting from it's main players. This is the polar opposite of your usual romantic comedy (I see you Jennifer Aniston). It's cliche to call a movie smart, but this certainly is. And unusually, an ending that doesn't treat moviegoers like children.

The Final Destination

Keeps with the theme and story line of the first three. 3-D has never done much for me, the glasses prove to be more of a bother and distraction. This doesn't break any ground but it's a fun, quick getaway.

My kind of thriller. A few genuine creepy moments and fine Anna Kendrick to look at the whole time. She's like a rich man's Audrina Patridge, who can act. Pretty obvious who the killer was, and it seemed much longer than 107 minutes but not in a bad way. Worth checking out.

Normally this is my kind of movie, but this bunch of rappers cannot act! Nas may be the biggest culprit here, while Method Man is the only one with legitimate skill (he did spend time on The Wire you know). Hype Williams directs, which may be why most of this looks like a long music video. Some scenes are jacked directly from other movies (can we say blatant Scarface jack?), and I didn't understand a word the Jamaican guy said. Not impressed.

A year ago I never would have watched this, but love of the show Glee is allowing me to expand my horizons lol. You won't get a killer story and fantastic acting, but the performances are great.

The Crazies
The Crazies(2010)

Not sure this really qualifies as a zombie movie. Something about the 'crazies' just didn't come off scary to me. Otherwise, not a bad movie. Olyphant doesn't disappoint as usual. Better than most horror remakes lately but was just missing something.

I (and apparently everyone else) knew who the killer was about an hour before the protagonist figured it out. And the story was discombobulated, to say the least. But all that is forgiven thanks to the Kate Beckinsale shower scene. That was worth the price of the rental.

More Than a Game

Really good documentary that gives you the true story behind the SVSM basketball squad. It's cool to see everything they went through and all that they overcame. I was never a huge Lebron fan but I have a new found respect for him.

The Hurt Locker

Awesome, action packed, and unlike most war movies it's not propaganda. The actions sequences are intense and really shows how dangerous of a job our soldiers have. Acting was superb, especially impressed with Anthony Mackie.

The Stepfather

At times it felt like a twisted episode of Gossip Girl. That may be more on me than the movie itself. No real scares but enough action to keep it moving. Amber Heard reminds me of a younger (and skinnier) ScarJo, and her prancing around in her bikini most of the time isn't a bad thing.

I don't know if I expected more from this or not, but let's say the right idea was there. The execution was bad. Simply was not funny and not really interesting either. Your kids may enjoy it, just make sure you don't have to join them.

The Marine 2
The Marine 2(2009)

I can't speak on Ted Dibiase's acting skills, as there wasn't many opportunities for him to showcase them, but this is definitely action-packed. I'd even say it was more entertaining than the first Marine. Doesn't look as if it's a straight to DVD'er either, as all the explosions and fireworks come of great. Worth checking out.

Jennifer's Body

Improvement upon the normal run of the mill "horror" flick. Megan Fox, despite her many corny one liners and ridiculous "teen jargon", still made the movie. Satisfying ending on top of that.

Post Grad
Post Grad(2009)

If 3 stars is an average rom-com, there are a few things that dropped this below. Zach Gilford mumbles through his cool guy act (including Jason Mraz rip off concert/hat and faking actual basketball skills). Some movies will at least make an attempt to deviate from the standard rom-com script in one way or another. This was textbook, predictable and awful. I was praying the inevitable wouldn't happen, but it did. The lone bright spot was Bledel, despite not having much to work with.

Weather Girl
Weather Girl(2009)

The girl half was discombobulated and choppy, but the second half picked up nicely. Another run of the mill rom-com that had its moments. Jane Lynch can really steal the show in a few short minutes.

The Hills Run Red

It tried a few original things but not all of them worked. As with most movies like this the ending was suspect. Regardless this is worth a watch, but Sophie Monk makes this a need to see.

500 Days of Summer

Definitely a love story this generation can relate too. From the beginning and throughout there relationship it all feels familiar. I think everyone has either been in that situation or known a girl like Summer. Zooey (and the movie) are truly charming through most. Towards the end it falters a bit, but the last 3 minutes sealed it for me. Perfect ending to this movie!

Into Temptation

Strange thing about this movie; nothing exciting really ever happens, but I was never bored or disinterested. I really found myself worried and wondering what would happen to Linda, although I probably always knew in the back of my mind. I've never seen her play any role like this, but Kristin Chenoweth was awesome as usual. The more I reflect after wards, the more it seems I appreciate this film.

Only watched this cause I'm high on Kristin Chenoweth right now. Her role was fine, and there were some funny jokes here and there. If you had to define average, family comedy this is pretty close to it.

A Perfect Getaway

Timothy Olephant kicked ass in this one. Sometimes these thrillers with twists outdo themselves and it comes out one jumbled mess, but this was well put together. What I thought was a solid ending dragged on a little long, but overall pleasantly surprised.

Another terrific performance from Tupac. These two junkies are trying their damnedest to get clean and the system just won't help them out. The 'dark comedy' aspect doesn't rear it's head as often as I expected, but still fun to watch and reminisce on Tupac's work.

Public Enemies

I was impressed at the lengths they went to to make this as accurate as possible. Depp played it perfectly and I loved Marion Cotillard as Bettie. The story of Dillinger is entertaining in itself, but across the board everyone who worked on this film did it justice.

Rest Stop: Don't Look Back

Having not seen the first, I can't imagine it was this bad. It starts out promising but as the story progresses it gets more and more ludicrous. It's watchable but I was left cursing the screen after the even more ridiculous ending. Jessie Ward was the only redeeming factor from this one.

Four Christmases

I was surprised at how much I liked this one. Vince Vaughn plays the same character he plays in every movie, but I can live with it. Robert Duvall was the highlight for me, ridiculously hilarious in his limited time. It won't go down as a Christmas classic but you can find worse ways to spend 80 minutes in December.

Inglourious Basterds

Tarantino did a fabulous job making this exciting and original. Even the parts that should have been drawn out and boring didn't feel that way. Fine performances all around. Even the abundant subtitles didn't distract from the movie. Well done!

Freddy vs. Jason

The storyline was a little out there and it was never really scary but it wasn't all bad. It had it's fair share of clever humor. Monica Keena confirms she's beautiful and also a capable actress. Kelly Rowland on the other hand, not so much. Yikes!

Plenty of cheap scares and legit ones also. This is not your typical bad seed. The twist really surprised me and it was well done. The Russian accent for Esther was awesome and Vera did her thing. Worth checking out for sure.

Pay It Forward

Pretty good message and it incorporates a lot of peoples real live problems. I found the ending to be awfully unnecessary but otherwise well done and well acted.

My Life in Ruins

Decent rom-com, but you'll see every bit of it coming. Despite most reviews I've read I thought Nia Vardalos did a fine job. Dreyfuss was clearly the star of the film. Basically a nice 98 minutes sit back, relax and enjoy the view.

I Love You Beth Cooper

The Girl Next Door remains my favorite movie ever, so I had high expectations for this one. I didn't find it particularly funny or interesting though. I can only imagine how much better the book must be. The main character was portrayed as such a loser it just wasn't believable. But Hayden was hot!!

Saw VI
Saw VI(2009)

Not the best but not the worst Saw movie of the bunch. Fits somewhere in the middle, but some of the games and kills seemed to lack creativity. But they keep pumping them out, I keep going to see them.

When a Stranger Calls

I first heard this story at a sleepover in elementary school. I didn't sleep for weeks afterwords, so this movie kind of took me back. It can get a little boring and they really had to stretch to pull out 83 minutes. Otherwise it wasn't too bad. I originally watched it just for Katie Cassidy, too bad she was only in it for like 3 minutes. Camilla Belle was looking good though.

Wrong Turn 3: Left for Dead

First off some of the acting, including the lead character, was atrocious. The psycho hillbillies just weren't very scary. Special effects were awful on more than a few occasions. Add in the escaped convict side-plot that took up way too much time, and I'd say an average run of the mill stinker. A few cool kills though.

Hannah Montana: The Movie

I'm really surprised I liked it. While the TV show is usually over the top corny, this managed to be over the top funny. Promotes a good message, has some good Miley songs, and Taylor Swift cameo.

I never officially knew this was based off {REC} until the end of the film, but the films are nearly identical. That being said, even though I've seen the original, Quarantine was still really good. And the ending I knew was coming, still scared the shit out of me. Good enough for me.

Trick 'r Treat

I get what the director was trying to do but the separate stories, despite being "tied together" in the end, just didn't mesh well. I expected more but this was a barely average effort for me.

Dark Ride
Dark Ride(2006)

I watched this for two reason. 1) Jamie-Lynn Sigler and 2) it's an After Dark Horrorfest film. Too bad that's all it had going for it. In no way is this creative or scary. Filled with cheap scares that don't deliver. A villain that lacks any creepiness and kills that are lackluster at best.

Away We Go
Away We Go(2009)

I can't say I remember seeing a movie quite like this. It's so refreshing with it's unique, subtle comedy. As the movie progresses it's emotional without being sappy (a feat rarely achieved these days). The supporting cast all play very eccentric, original characters and they act the hell out of their parts. All while John Krasinski successfully escapes that Jim Halpert style of acting. This will be re-watched soon.

This story's been told before but I did appreciate the unique setting and way it was told here. Corri English is pretty hot, and at many times a dead ringer for Britney Spears in this film. The whole cast was solid w/their acting, which is unusual for the Horrorfest flicks.

Timber Falls
Timber Falls(2007)

I've been wanting to see this for awhile and I wasn't disappointed. I did jump a few times but I wouldn't necessarily call it scary. That's not saying it wasn't good. Plenty of gore, oddly large # of people stabbed in the neck lol. For people bitching about the end, you knew it was coming. What's wrong w/one last cheap scare?

Observe and Report

Started off really funny but kind of tailed off at the end. Nice to see Anna Faris playing a bitchy character instead of her usual. Above average comedy.

The Gravedancers

I liked the idea of the three gravedancers and the three ghosts, but once the ghost hunters entered the picture I was put off. Felt like a strong premise was ruined. The special effects simply got worse as the movie went on and I expected more from professionals; no matter the budget. Disappointed.

Next Day Air
Next Day Air(2009)

Kind of a hybrid type movie; Action/comedy/drama. Whatever it was it kept me entertained and it worked. Funny to see Eddie from Family Matters playing a gangster lol.

Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs

What can I say? My 7-year-old liked it. I didn't find it particularly funny or interesting. Fairly original concept, but I'm sure the book captured this bright idea better than the movie.

Really funny for a horror movie. Never takes itself too seriously but doesn't get too ridiculous. Gregg Henry is hilarious as the town mayor. Pleasantly surprised.

Dead of Winter

One of the worst movies I've ever seen. Both characters are tripping on LSD, so of course they're seeing and hearing crazy things. Unfortunately, this isn't scary because you know none of it is remotely real. At one point, they're talking to a group of non-responsive people in the middle of a field. They're not responding because they're COWS, complete with mooing. nonsensical piece of garbage.

Vacancy 2: The First Cut

Lacked the suspense and scares of the first, and obviously without the star power. Not terrible though, and provides a reason for the original; although I'm not sure anyone asked for one.

Dance Flick
Dance Flick(2009)

I had no idea there were so many Wayans, but Damon Jr was the best in this one. I dunno what people expect from this type of movie. It had it's moments with a few bad misses, but generally better than most spoofs. So you think you can dance? Well step up. Bring it on. Because we are America's best dance crew!

The Cake Eaters

Well their post-Twilight update to the cover, which now features Kristen Stewart, worked; she being the only reason I rented it. But there wasn't much to like or dislike, it all just seemed sort of there. Not enough character development to make me care about any of them, but anything longer than it's running time would have been a detriment.

I Love You, Man

This movie was hilarious! I'm glad I waited for the DVD because I had to rewind so many parts. What else needs to be said?

I was pretty disappointed. Maybe my expectations were too high but it just wasn't that funny. Eisenberg seemed like a Cera wanna be, even Kristen Stewart couldn't save it. Bill Hader was funny but didn't pop up enough. Bummed cause it had so much potential.

Told pretty much all from Tyson's POV, this was fascinating to watch. It was great to hear what was going on in Mike's head through all the highs and lows of his life. Clips from all his fights are classic to watch. I totally forgot he gave up vs. a lowly McBride. Headscratchers like describing a tough time as a "hard pillow to sleep with" are abundant, but a rare gems can be heard too. "Old too soon, smart too late."

Overacting meet Beyonce, Beyonce meet...oh wait you're already well acquainted. Damn she over did it, just awful. And the soundtrack was bad too, which she left her fingerprints all over. I do like Ali Larter and Stringer Bell, er Idris Elba. They did their job, but this movie couldn't quite be saved.

I do have a thing for hand-held camera horror films...not so much subtitled horror films, so this was a mixed bag. The final 10 minutes really made the movie because it scared the shit out of me! I hope the rumored REC 2 becomes reality with Manuela Velasco.

Loved it!! Refreshing change of pace, definitely inspired me in more ways than one. Some of the acting was a little spotty but that's fine. We need more movies like this one.

The Haunting in Connecticut

Started off on the right foot...with a couple legit scares that had me hoppin out of my seat. But once the brilliant teenagers figured out the preposterous story (all within a 45 second montage at the library) it became so muddled & silly I just wanted it to end. My go to girl Amanda Crew couldn't even save this for me. If you must watch, skip the Unrated version and save yourself 10 min.

As if the mirrors aren't scary enough, prepare to be terrified of water too!! This movie is a) not scary, b) not interesting and c) not good. The story is ridiculous and hardly makes sense. Besides a couple cool parts I can't find any redeeming value in this one. Why Keifer, why!?

Miss March
Miss March(2009)

Ya I watched all this for 90 seconds of Sara Jean Underwood, but it could have been worse. Some funny parts with one that almost had me in tears. For something signed off on by Hugh Hef, not what you'd expect.

It's a solid movie with fine performances all around, but it sure scared the hell out of me more than any horror movie could; as it should any parent. Props to the whole cast but I'd like to forget I watched it and keep it movin.

Friday the 13th

Jumped out of my seat a couple times, but I don't need any unintentional laughter with my slasher horror. The acting was dreadful, especially in the beginning. Whatever novelty a topless Willa Ford provides, at least you've got that.

He's Just Not That Into You

Exceptional cast with unexceptional acting. Predictable but not ridiculously corny like most movies this type. Scar Jo looked a little hefty for some reason. And this was my introduction to Ginnifer Goodwin who was probably my fav in the movie. Affleck's effort seemed awful.

Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (Ice Age 3)

Definitely lacked the humor and charm of the first two. Could have used a more solid plot to begin with but they didn't do well with what was presented. Tons and tons of unfunny catchphrases. Just brutal to sit through; thank God it was short.

Disaster Movie

Honestly loved the first 45 minutes. Had some really funny spoofs, which they apparently used up because the last 45 minutes was pretty bad. Maybe they had to force the jokes so they could close out what thin plot did exist, I don't know. But can you go wrong with a Kardashian v. Electra diva match?

An entertaining story about the time Tom Cruise attempted to kill Hitler. I think the historical aspect of the events are more interesting than this film's take on them, but it was done well enough. Not a hint of German accent from most of them which is fairly hard to look past.

The Hangover
The Hangover(2009)

I'd only heard good things and it didn't disappoint. Funniest movie I've seen in a minute. "I tend to think of myself as a one man wolf pack."

Confessions of a Shopaholic

I'm not going to mention how insanely hot Isla Fisher is in this movie. It was really funny throughout and managed to avoid the necessary corny moments for as long as possible. John Salley was the man in his hilarious cameo. And Isla Fisher was insanely hot.

The Messengers

Basically a paint-by-numbers horror movie, but they pulled it off better than usual. Kristen Stewart in all her pre-Twilight hotness. Lip bite included.

Nothing But the Truth

Inspired by the Plame Affair, this film took those events and expanded on them. Well done by everyone involved, especially Matt Dillon as the special prosecutor. I found myself less and less sympathetic for Beckinsale's character as the film wore on, but the ending gave a deeper glimpse into her mindset. Great political drama.

Finally all the hype has passed and I can check this movie out. It's the first 'vampire' movie that didn't make me think the entire concept of a vampire was retarded. Chemistry between the two stars was incredible, the movie just had that something. Kristen Stewart was ridiculously hot also.

My Bloody Valentine 3-D

Good story, good kills and made great use of the 3-D, even on Blu-ray. Without the 3D it's still better than most horror films as of late. Definitely worth watching.

Fired Up
Fired Up(2009)

This was pretty rough to watch. It was rarely funny and the "cheerleaders" were terrible. Hardly any hot girls (save for AnnaLynne McCord). Best part was the CLIP from Bring It On, yikes!

One Missed Call

Well I knew it would be bad, but it could have been worse. Scary, no. Creepy, a little. Some of it is completely laughable, but what can ya do.

Whoever labeled this a thriller should be smacked. The first 70 minutes are some dreadful type of romance, and this looked headed for an all-time stinker. Surprisingly, the ending was satisfying and even got a second watch. Can't really recommend this one though.

Best movie of the year so far. The 3D was impressive at times. but the real treat was the story. There seemed to be a story for adults and one for kids that ran seamlessly together. Even when the humor lagged for a few, I was never disengaged or uninterested. Could go down as a classic.

Biggie and Tupac

Granted I already knew plenty on the subject, but Broomfield's doc provided some compelling new information and interviews, as well as some classic unseen footage. In my opinion, it was pretty clear from the beginning Suge was behind it all. He owed Pac money, lied about bullet fragments left in his head. Set up the beating at the casino. Employed crooked LAPD. Set up the Biggie shooting to cover up his tracks. It's also a shame many of the clearest suspects have never even been interviewed. Great doc if you love the subject.

Wow, Liam Neeson really kicked ass on some James Bond type moves. Always exciting, never slows down. If I had one beef I'd say Liam kicked everyone's ass a little TOO easily but no biggie. The blu-ray has some cool extras like a kill meter (33) and the distance traveled (about 12000 miles).

Donkey Punch
Donkey Punch(2008)

Pretty good British thriller. You can't tell from the film alone this is the first role for many of the actors. The ending kind of fizzles, but there are some innovative deaths along the way. And now I know what a donkey punch is lol.

Seven Pounds
Seven Pounds(2008)

I'm all for disorganized, jumbled films that wait until the end to tidy up the pieces. This movie spent so much time raising questions, I didn't care to find out the answers. A little too self righteous. I probably would have preferred say...Three Pounds.

Hotel for Dogs

The dogs were too cute (Emma Roberts too). Surprised to see my man Don Cheadle, but it was an added bonus. Kevin Dillon too. Good family movie that finally didn't have the urge to throw in a few bad words.

The Spirit
The Spirit(2008)

The things I do for Scarlett Johansson. It only took me 5 hours to finish this one. Including a break to do the dishes. The movie looked incredible, especially on Blu-ray, but the story was weak and uninteresting. Still, Scarlett & Eva were smokin.

Bride Wars
Bride Wars(2009)

Exactly what I expected; no more no less. Complete with crappy, sappy ending. I'm gonna have to start rethinking these Anne Hathaway movies.

Slumdog Millionaire

Deserving of all the credit it's received. Unique way of storytelling, soundtrack accompanied it perfectly. Not plausible by any stretch of the imagination but I still loved it.

Whatever credit I didn't give Jennifer Love Hewitt all these years, she earned it here. Hackman was funny, but I find Sigourney Weaver disgusting. Too much of everyone playing everyone else shady. 2.5 stars for the movie, 1 for JLH

Disappointed. By watching this film you'd think Diddy was Jesus Christ himself (no wonder, since he was ex producer). The acting is laughable on more than one occasion. Biggie is more Fat Albert. They played Pac super shady, makin him look CRAZY. And Lil' Cease looks like he was 12 years old. I know this had to be a hard film to cast but give me a break. I gotta call bullshit on this one.

Watched it just for Teresa Palmer (reason enough) but extremely surprised it was this good. Liked the ending besides the last 2-3 minutes which was just weird. Did I mention Teresa Palmer??

The Wrestler
The Wrestler(2008)

Rourke and Tomei couldn't have done better (Mickey was screwed out of that Oscar). So true to form about the world of wrestling, at least ECW style. The characters deal with so many different emotions. Really showed how life's decisions, right or wrong, will have consequences. I was left in awe as the credits rolled. Amazing. Simply bad ass with a soundtrack to match.

Yes Man
Yes Man(2008)

Finally Jim Carrey is funny again! But really, this was hilarious and never had a dull moment. Zooey Dechanel is too cute, she stole the show.

Boogeyman 3
Boogeyman 3(2008)

Having missed the two previous instant classics, this one reminded me too much of Urban Legend; of course not as good. With so many jump-out-of-your-seat scares, a few are bound to work. Acting ranges from ok to just pathetic (this means you Chuck Hittinger). Might be worth checking out the first two, or the fourth which I'm sure is on the way.

Lara Croft - Tomb Raider

The only redeeming qualities in this movie are a few nice special effects and getting to look at Angelina. Otherwise, I was bored out of my mind. The story was borderline ridiculous. As bad as the past few games in the franchise.

Bedtime Stories

Pretty funny and good for the entire family. Bugsy the guinea pig was hilarious, and Teresa Palmer may be the hottest actress I'd never heard of. Honestly didn't think I'd like this one, but it is worth a watch.

Eden Lake
Eden Lake(2008)

Why can't these British couples just go to a hotel for vacation? It's more gruesome than scary but still not a bad little flick. Unlike most movies in the genre, I actually liked the ending. But the main villain's accent is so heavy I can't understand half of what he says, blurg!

The Good Student

The obvious selling point here is Hayden, but considering she is kidnapped she's MIA for 90% of the movie. Although she does look damn hot the other 10%. Beyond that there isn't much here. While it's not all bad, this indie has a strange plot chock full of holes and an even worse ending.

Rachel Getting Married

Well acted by all, especially Anne, which was to be expected. Yet, I could have attended a stranger off the streets wedding and been just as interested. Uneventful scenes like rehearsal dinner toasts and reception dances drag on mercilessly. Too many hand held camera shots. A big bore.

He Was a Quiet Man

Not quite a dark comedy, but definitely dark. Slater plays Milton's creepier cousin really well, but you can see the reason behind his rapid ascension well before it's revealed. This movie also proves even a paraplegic Elisha Cuthbert can pull off her patented lip bite perfectly. Still a creepy movie!

Marley & Me
Marley & Me(2008)

As a dog lover I knew what I was getting into. I watched it with my little one, and did my best to keep it together, but willpower only goes so far. It brought flashbacks from when my first dog was put to sleep and how much it hurts. "How many people can make you feel extraordinary? "

Quantum of Solace

The action was there of course, but the story seemed weak and contrived. Definitely fell off from Casino Royale, but I'll be damned if the world doesn't need more Olga Kurylenko. Smokin

Role Models
Role Models(2008)

All the potential in the world to live up to it's counterparts. Started off on the right track, but eventually you wind up spending half the time on an imaginary battlefield. Still had it's moments but, ouch. And that little boy's real life parents should be ashamed of themselves!

Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist

Quirky and awkward but not a moment felt out of place or exaggerated. Not chock full of laughs but it didn't take away from the movie. This is what I wanted Juno to be.

Sex Drive
Sex Drive(2008)

Simply hilarious, much better than I expected. How did I not know about Amanda Crew? She's like a hotter version of Avril Lavigne. And Katrina Bowden looked great as always. Seth Green played sarcasm to a tee. I'll be buying this on Blu-Ray soon.

Lakeview Terrace

Unfortunately, Jackson is the only one in the movie that knows how to act. That being said, the action-less first 70 minutes were brutal. However, once things started to pick up it caught it's stride. All leading up to the easily predictable ending. Jackson saved this from being abysmal, and made it mediocre.

Zack and Miri Make a Porno

This by far surpassed my expectations. Found it hilarious until it slowed up at the end to sort out all the main plot line. Elizabeth Banks is gorgeous and her character is so likable. Blu-ray is filled with great extras. Loved it!

Mr. & Mrs. Smith

I am definitely on an Angelina Jolie kick and it doesn't appear to be ending soon. This was surprisingly funny, with plenty of slick gunfights and action scenes. Of course Mrs. Jolie was fine as ever. And Vince Vaughn drops in to play the same shtick as all his other movies.

In a good way, I got way more than I was expecting with this one. Just a case of the wrong boy returned? I don't think so. The cast was amazing all around, especially Jolie and Geoff Pierson as her attorney. The confession scene made me forget I was on planet Earth for a few, and Eastwood slipped in a subtle reminder of how good the scene really was. Bonus...Amy Ryan!!

My Best Friend's Girl

Dane Cook plays an obnoxious asshole who actually did manage to irritate the hell out of me. He did have some funny one-liners. It's not all bad, but it's definitely not all good. But seriously, what was Kate Hudson thinking?

Pretty much stole 80% of it's content from prior movies, Superbad especially. Plenty of simply disgusting moments, even for my taste. Still had some funny parts, maybe an extra star since I started drinking halfway through?

Get on the Bus

Never in my life would I have watched this, save for my liberal sociology professor requiring it. While I'm not exactly the target audience for this film, it was fairly entertaining and had a few good laughs. And Bunk plays the black Republican who naturally is portrayed as the money grubbing asshole.

Paul Blart: Mall Cop

I appreciate it when movies like this keep it short, and this one does at 87 minutes. It was a charming and humorous movie though, family friendly too, save for a couple exceptions. Jayma Mays looked great and could have passed as Anna Faris.

Not a dull moment, action and effects were on point. Best movie I've seen in awhile. Angelina is the only woman who can make tattoos look hot. Simply put a gangster ass movie.

My Sassy Girl

The guy from Bring It On, the goddess that is Elisha Cuthbert; put together a very strange but amusing love story. Elisha starts off as a perfect illustration of the crazy girl, we all know the type. Come to find out she's got her reasons, and she's more like us that we thought. Cute, peculiar movie! nhjic

The Wackness
The Wackness(2008)

Ahh growing up in the 90's. The first love, the drugs, the music. This definitely had that throwback feel. And they nailed the soundtrack (Method Man, Wu-Tang, Nas) They did seem to ride B.I.G.'s you know what a little hard, but its whatever. Good movie for all you 80's babies. Weird to see Josh Peck in something not on Nick lol

Snow Angels
Snow Angels(2007)

I wasn't sure where this movie was headed, but once it let me know I was enthralled. It shows the joys of love, as well as the ultimate tragedies it can bring. It will almost surely leave you with a feeling of sadness, yet no regret for having watched it. I may need to check out the book.

An American Carol

With all the crap Hollywood puts out, finally a movie with a conservative view point and celebrates America. Liberals will probably hate this, only because it makes them look foolish. Kept me cracking up throughout.

Well Don Cheadle, I knew the day would come when one of your movies just wasn't very good lol. It just wasn't very interesting. And despite some other reviews, the Anti-Americanism seemed overwhelming to me. Barely worth the rental.

Paid in Full
Paid in Full(2002)

Top 5 all-time movie. All the acting is on point. Wood Harris, Cam'ron & Mekhi are ridiculous. Bad ass story. What more can be said?

The House Bunny

It may not be groundbreaking but it is really funny. Anna Faris is hilarious and even hotter than usual. I can even look past the predictable and corny ending. Good cast with plenty of cool cameos. Sara Jean Underwood, Shaq, Dan Patrick etc. And of course, the Girls Next Door!

Tropic Thunder

Had some really funny moments but also dragged on at parts. Tom Cruise was surprisingly hilarious. Great cast and some good cameos (JLH anyone?).

Fred Claus
Fred Claus(2007)

I was pleasantly surprised it was more family friendly than expected. Although I wouldn't say it was necessarily entertaining. It did have a good message and a few bright spots. How Vince Vaughn can fit "Let's make some bad decisions" into every one of his movies, I don't know. And Elizabeth Banks = BONUS!

The Promotion

Now I know why none of my friends had ever heard of this. It wasn't very good or funny. Amazing how an 85 minute movie can drag on and on. Plot was weak. Only positive thing I can take away from this is Jenna Fischer.

The Hole
The Hole(2001)

To put it bluntly, I found myself continually saying "Wow, what a bitch!". Birch plays the main character so well it evokes some true emotion. The story is kind of hectic and jumpy, but works itself out in the end. Although, I'm still trying to figure out what the opening scene had to do with anything! It's genuinely creepy and unique. Worth a look, if not just for Keira.

Get Smart
Get Smart(2008)

Another slightly disappointing Carrell movie. Lots of little jokes but not much as far as quality laughs. Anne Hathaway was smoking hot like I've never seen her before. The Great Khali vs. Carell as an added bonus.

The Duchess
The Duchess(2008)

What is it with Keira and her period pieces? Regardless she was amazing here. Provides insight into the real life of Georgiana, duchess of Devonshire. Unfortunately, it just wasn't that interesting.

Saw V
Saw V(2008)

A movie made specifically for the ignorant. Terribly lame puzzles. Weak, lazy story-telling and equivalent acting. Surprisingly I enjoyed the ending, but the final two minutes couldn't save this movie. Good thing Saw VI is in pre-production already!

Say what you will about a film being "quality cinema", it still has to keep my interest. The unfortunate thing is this film lost my interest at least three times, and once at length. It's a good story. Well written, well acted. An inspiring ending. Yet I leave it saying, blah.

Drive Thru
Drive Thru(2007)

Classic B horror movie. The first 10 minutes are so bad the movie has no choice but to get better from there. Leighton Meester was hot as usual. To sum it up, this is a good bad movie.

Made of Honor

Much funnier than anticipated, and surprisingly good considering the fairly obvious storyline. Most guys can sort of relate to Tom's situation, so not entirely a chick flick. Bonus Elizabeth Hasselbeck cameo and Oasis song on the soundtrack.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall

Absolutely hilarious. It took me forever to watch because I was constantly rewinding the funny parts. Kristen Bell walks that thin line between weird looking and amazingly hot. Mila Kunis however, just amazingly hot! Must see movie.

Remember the Daze

Definitely reminded me a lot of my high school days. First half of the movie was dreadfully slow and erratic, but it came together nicely. Not a solid plot or reason for the movie, and not enough Leighton Meester!

Street Kings
Street Kings(2008)

Pretty solid crooked cop action flick with quality performances from Whitaker, as usual, and Chris Evans. Cedric seemed like an odd choice as far as casting. The Game and Common did just fine in their 4 minutes of screen time. Expected a better soundtrack, and the 'surprise' ending was kinda obvious.

What Happens in Vegas

Surprisingly hilarious, even through the inevitable corny ending. The cast played well off, Hater and Tipper especially. Diaz was looking pretty good (which is saying something). I wouldn't even call this a chick flick, just a funny ass movie.
