Matt's Review of Blue Like Jazz
Blue Like Jazz(2012)
Don't confuse "Christian movie" with "family friendly." Because that is not the case with "Blue Like Jazz," which is (loosely) based on the wildly popular autobiographical book by Donald Miller. It's hip, funny, and (I think, at least) may hit home even more with those outside the church-culture.
As a huge fan of the book, I admit I'm a bit let down by the film: it ends up a watered down copy, with an almost entirely different feel and message. However, I have to give the filmmakers props: this was a tough book to tackle, and it could have been a lot worse. The heart is in the right place, but the movie could have had smoother execution. That being said, "Blue" is a surprising and unique film which aims to start conversation, and challenges those on both sides of the religious spectrum.
