Constructing this film through random scenes, director Harmony Korine abruptly jettisoned any sort of narrative plot, so here we go: Solomon and Tummler are two bored teenage boys who live in Xenia, Ohio. A few years ago, a tornado swept through it, destroying more than half the town and killing the same amount, including Solomon's father. The film, from there, chronicles the anti-social adventures these two boys have. These include sniffing glue, killing cats, riding dirtbikes, listening to black metal, and meeting a cavalcade of quirky, bizarre, and scary people. These include a man who pimps his mentally ill wife to our anti-heroes, three sisters who play with their cat and practice becoming strippers, a black midget fending off the sexual advances of a troubled man (played by the director Harmony Korine), a 12-year-old gay transvestite who is also a cat killer, Solomon's mother who seems to be the only glimpse of sanity, two foul-mouthed six-year olds, and most importantly, a nymphlike skateboarder who walks around town wearing pink rabbit ears

In a dream-like sequence, a woman's eye is slit open--juxtaposed with a similarly shaped cloud obsucuring the moon moving in the same direction as the knife through the eye--to grab the audience's attention. The French phrase "ants in the palms," (which means that someone is "itching" to kill) is shown literally. A man pulls a piano along with the tablets of the Ten Commandments and a dead donkey towards the woman he's itching to kill. A shot of differently striped objects is repeatedly used to connect scenes.

Ray takes Jonny on (he uses his job as a courier to steal credit cards), but Jonny soon finds himself bored: the gang is more interested in goofing around and planning Ray's wedding than in fighting, havoc, and mayhem. Jonny wants violence, so he repeatedly tries to start trouble with the South London equivalent of Ray's gang. Will he succeed? If he does, will he find glory in war?

Reg Dunbar (Paul Newman) is an aging player/coach for minor-league hockey team the Charleston Chiefs. His team is dead last in the Federal League, his players mostly a bunch of losers who dream of landing a job at an auto plant when their career is over. The lone quality player is Ned Braden (Michael Ontkean), who is not only the highest-scorer in the Federal League, but a Princeton grad who plays for the love of the game. Through the machinations of penny-pinching team Manager Joe McGrath (Strother Martin), three new players are obtained from the Iron League -- the Hanson Brothers (Jeff & Steve Carlson, David Hanson).
Coach Dunbar is less than impressed with the new acquisitions, and at first refuses to play them. They appear to have a mean streak; wrapping their knuckles with aluminum foil and tape prior to every game (for use when fighting). Finally, desperate to win, Dunbar releases the new players on the rival team. The Hansons immediately assault and brutalize the opposition, much to the delight of Charleston's working-class fans. The other players soon take their cue and become "goons," fighting as much as actually playing hockey. It all becomes a kind of orgy of violence -- repellent to the talented Ned Braden -- but winning games nonetheless. The Chiefs begin making money, filling the stands, and things are looking up at last.
Unfortunately, Coach Dunbar is faced with the realities of his situation. He doesn't actually know who owns the team, and there are rumors that it will fold. He does what he can to fool the media and his players, but ultimately confronts McGrath and finds out that a woman owns the team. He finds her, pleads his case, and is told that her accountants advised her to shut down the Chiefs for tax purposes. After a climactic final game (in which all the heavies and goons the opposing team could lure from retirement are arrayed against them) the Chiefs win the Federal League and receive a heroes' welcome back in Charleston. Dunbar is pleased to find out that the NHL's Minnesota Nighthawks want to hire him as their coach, and that several key Chief's players will be part of the bargain.
