This moving drama deserves an Oscar. Jet Li as the father of an autistic son did a superb job playing the character of a dying man, desperate for securing the care and well being of his son. Lunmei Kwai plays the character of the autistic 22 years son, and his performance is also excellent. The cinematography is outstanding, in particular the scenes at the aquarium where the son swim with the turtles, fish and other ocean mammals. I cried at the end, no shame to admit it, but that is part of the experience. I highly recommend this heartfelt drama. If you have Netflix, don't pass the chance to watch it.
Agora, Alejandro Amenábar's masterpiece, relates the story of Hypatia, the first known woman scholar of Alexandria. Dedicated to teaching and research in Philosophy, Mathematics and Astronomy, Hypatia attracted students from all creeds and nationalities. She educated the next generation of rulers. However, Hypatia became the easy target of religious zealots who could not bear the thought she was a powerful woman who was not afraid of tell her truth in public. She was killed by a "Christian" mob manipulated by local politicians. I highly recommend it!
Set in the Australian outback, this powerful film tells the story of an aboriginal family who fights to stay together against the shameful Australian government's "miscegenation policy" toward Aboriginal half-castes. Miscegenation policies are strategies to control native population by promoting interracial sex and off springs. Used by some governments, miscegenation policies have been implemented, despite ethical concerns. The film is based on a book written by the daughter of Molly Kelley, a 14 year girl who along with two other girls escaped from a "half caste" camp to return to their aboriginal family. I highly recommend it!
