Solid psychological terror which maybe goes on about ten minutes too long?
While not scary in the least, it is horrific at times (the hair in the sink especially). So "horror vs scary" might seem like quibbling because it is an enjoyable film. The young actors go a long way to make this as good as it is since there's nothing new in terms of visuals or interesting direction.
Johnson's subversion (or reinvention) of genre is quite thrilling. While I didn't love this like I loved BRICK, it is its own thing with great performances and rich settings.
