"Deffinetly puts style over substance, but the substance is there. This is by far the best Stephen Norrington film i've seen, so i hope all that shit he was saying about "never making another movie" after LXG is just that...shit. Coz i could definetly see some more of this type of directing. Great cast, great editing, great fx (that cancer guy!!) and an Amazing soundtrack. My only gripe is the pacing mid second act....and that now i cant stop thinking about the time!
terrible...im sick of talking about it
"The Hot Topic generation has finally got their "Rocky Horror Picture Show. Before i start talking about the musical aspects of this movie (coz it is totally a musical, as in no dialouge), let me just remark on how much of a good sci-fi movie it is. The flick has arguably some of the best sci-fi landscape since "Blade Runner". The world of this movie is a decrepit dystopian future where death surrounds everything. This is a world where an epidemic of organ faliures has resulted in the decimation of humankind. A world where the company GeneCo has capitalized the organ manufacturing market...eventually turning surgery into a regular part of life. But the catch is every organ has a payment plan behind it, and when you cant keep up with the payments a "Repo Man" is sent out to carve u up and reclaim whatever organ u bought. With that bleak outlook in mind, this musical consists of Metal and Industrial music, with a little opera thrown into the mix thanks to Paul Sorvino and Sarah Brightman. This being a musical though, it's strengths are supposed to be the songs and sadly there are a couple of shit ones spread throughout. Most of them belonging to Alexa Vega's "Shilo" (the lead mind you). However the songs belting out from Anthony Stuart Head (Shilos father and the repo man from the title) as are those from Brightman ( as Blind Mag, GeneCo's opera star) and Terrance Zdunich ( the Grave-Robber and the original play's co-creator) are very very awesome. At the end, the flicks real flaws are with it's editing and ocassional shitty songs, but for the most part, what we get is a very original, very funny, and very entertaining musical....and i hate musicals by the way. Ohh, and it's extremely gory as well!!!!
"Okay, i definetly got everything that i was looking for, but thats just me, a comic book fan. If u have no interest in comic books, u should avoid this movie like the plague coz it's just gonna piss u off...like it did the audience i saw it with. It looks amazing, the dialouge is pure 40's cheese and the accion is over the top...all things i thoroughly enjoy. Biggest problem is that the editing REALLY fucks up the pacing and makes the flick look like its a rough cut that was somehow sneaked into a theater. Having said all of this and this being his first solo movie, Frank could have done a lot worse than the finished product...some fine tuning is all thats missing.
btw, god bless Eva Mendes ass!!!!"
