emo sci-fi. stunningly bad on every level. writing, camera work, concept, character, directing, acting. just idiotic. something deep and exciting for absolute twits.

over-wrought, melodramatic sculpture, but a good story and a first-rate alternative history of civilization. a beautiful freak.

badly written, atrociously edited. precious, desperate, and annoying. and, yeah, I liked the Squid and the Whale.

this was close to unwatchable in any state of mind or from any point of view, including 'ironically.' Paul Verhoeven isn't a B-movie auteur. He isn't a camp stylist, or a sly commentator on anything. He is just an opportunistic hack and a terrible movie director.
