Spellbinding, awe-inspiring and joyous are just some words used to describe this film. It's presented brilliantly, and the choreography is second to none. If this film can't bring a bit of happiness to you then I fear there is no hope for you.
Not a bad film - it has it moments and there are some genuinely laugh out loud bits, but it's not a classic. For a casual Saturday night it'll do the job just fine.
Logan has a plethora of great reviews around it and I have to say they are fully justified. High Jackman and Patrick Stewart* sign off in style in a film which will be tugging on your heartstrings one minute, before mercilessly ripping them out. This film is bittersweet, brutal, intense, beautiful and simply a must watch. This is not your usual Marvel film where there are wise cracks every 5 minutes, this is a deeper affair that's more sentimental and draws you in from start to finish. Fantastic work from all those involved. Sad to see you go Hugh, it's been fun and the next person has a lot to live up to. What a way to finish your role though!
*Rumours are Stewart could return.
The Lego Batman Movie is huge fun for all ages. If this isn't able to put a smile on your face then simply have sense of humour. A very good watch indeed.
I was eager to see this in the cinema but decided not to after the mixed reviews and I'm glad I made that decision. This isn't the worst comic book film I've ever seen but it's far from being the greatest. The film is all over the place and the whole affair feels disjointed and a tad haphazard. I get the sense that the makers of the film wanted to give it an 'organised chaos' feel given the type of characters involved, but in truth it just felt like chaos.
The cast list is far from weak yet the actors aren't able to shine too brightly, as the characters aren't managed as well as they perhaps could have been. Yes, we do see a little backstory for each character but they still seem a bit two-dimensional if you ask me.
On a more positive note, I did like the choice of songs used in the film and that was one of its few saving graces. I also liked the visual effects used in the film which helped to give it some character but overall this is not a film I'll be watching again in any hurry...
