Look out for a rarity in this if you know Mayall as the 'Rick' type character from The Young Ones. This highly underrated film has Rik as a character far different than his usual persona and makes a very good job of it too. Add Jane Horrocks as the titular character and this movie becomes more than excellent.
To be honest, never liked the film much. Despite my picture, this has got to be one of the worst things Rik has ever done.
Despite my loving for Rik and Ade, Bottom was made a series and I think it should stay a series. This spin-off sort of flopped in the entertainment department as you can tell that the pair cannot really write a full 90min storyline (as the live shows are often improvised) as the story lacks in places. Nice to see Simon Pegg and Bill Nighy together before they done Shaun of the Dead though.
As Rik keeps saying about stuff he's in: every moment without him is s***, which is absolutely true in this case as he steals the show from everybody's noses. Mayall seems to be the only person seen acting in this film and so carries the film on his shoulders. Besides Rick from TYO, Fred is the character that Rik is known for playing as he made it completely his own. Anyone agree?
