Great fast-moving entertainment. The costumes feature lots of great colors in some questionable styles. Rebecca Ferguson is just incredible. Her good looks belie the strength of her character and acting. It's refreshing to see Hollowood offer a complex, strong female character who's sexy, smart, talented (can you say motorcycle?), and consummately professional without throwing out her emotions. She's not a bitch, whore, or virgin. Yay! It took me a while to get used to Simon Pegg, and he came though as not being awful or stupidly slapstick. Ving Rhames's solid character seemed under-used. The action was fresh, interesting, and well-done.
I don't think ex machina is as good as other reviewers. The concept is great: an actual Turing test. The ending is brilliant. Everything in between is OK to weak. I ultimately find biggest fault with the unreliable filmmaker, which is not the same as an unreliable narrator. There's a lot that's flawless about ex machina, and its flaws got in the way of my full enjoyment.
