Aladdin was enjoyable, well paced and very entertaining as a live-action recreation of Disney's cartoon classic. Will Smith is identifiably excellent and the stars are both charismatic and likable. I will be buying this on Blu-Ray to add to my collection.
Hellboy is very entertaining and the monsters he encounters are pretty radical. Except for the giants who look cartoony and nonsensical in facial features and don't match the refinement of the hell monsters. Sometimes I don't know what the critics are smoking with their jaded reviews.
From the beginning, Shazam is fun, entertaining and has great pacing. There are many moments of solid performances and that is only heightened by the plot and the storytelling. There are some cheesy moments but this is a little bit of a kids movie in certain scenes so they are warranted. Another great entry after Aquaman and Wonder Woman. Now please bring back Cavill as Superman
Jordan Peele's 2nd cinematic entry as a director is a mixed bag. It's good but not as solid as Get Out because the movie falls apart in the middle due to the ridiculousness and absurdity of the plots truth which is right when the movie nosedives. I won't ruin it for anyone who hasn't seen the movie but at least we do get solid performances from all the actors and actresses involved. Everyone is excellent. I think the thing that stuck the most with me is realizing the text at the beginning being shown in order to believe the absurdity which doesn't work well at all. The reveal at the end is disturbingly good though even though if it is slightly predictable. Regardless, this is one of the better horror films out their and Jordan has put in an incredible effort with his 1st two films.
Captain Marvel is awesome as an origin movie and also as a 90's period action flick. It slowly unravels the story of Carol Danvers as we get to discover her past just as she does and mysteries are solved and plot twists are introduced. The audience also gets to learn about more characters we have seen before and the de-aging process really shines in this movie. Brie Larson shines as Carol Danvers and her Oscar winning actress ability is present throughout the movie. The movie does have several themes of female empowerment which resonate through the entire runtime and provides a solid foundation for a strong hero that will populate Marvels Cinematic Universe as it's most powerful hero for 6 more movies and possibly 7 to 10 years more. Don't listen to negative hype from predominantly enraged dudebro misogynists as this movie is solid, entertaining and worthy of its runtime and a slick entry leading up to Avengers Endgame.
This movie is insultingly bad and goes in so many idiotic directions with respect to the plot. The actors and actresses are good but they can't save a bad plot or story. The ending, which everyone should know by now, involves an idiotic Iron Man type Predator suit. When I saw that I just had to turn the movie off. It was so absurdly stupid I couldn't watch any longer. Am I surprised you ask? -No, because Shane Black also ruined Iron Man 3 by mish mashing different comicbook plots into a mess of a bad story. This movie should be forgotten with a reboot.
Excellent direction and acting, Vice is a testament to solid movie making at its highest form. Adam McKay is a phenomenal director and his cast, compromised of solid choices all around, are each highly adept in their roles. Christian Bale melds into his role as Dick Cheney and Amy Adams is barely recognizable as his wife but both turn in excellent performances.
On the Basis of Sex is solid but not long enough. Once our protagonist finally gets in the courtroom it doesn't last nearly enough but the entire movie is so well made it's one of the those movies you wish would last longer. I could have sat through an additional hour of courtroom cases showcasing Ruth's triumphs. Sadly, the movie ends before you know it but it is solid and the cast is excellent. Felicity Jones is a star on the rise as she shows her full range of emotions throughout Ruth's troubled tribulations. Arnie Hammer is highly capable as her spouse handing in another solid performance and even the actress playing the daughter does a great job.
The Mary Poppins sequel is as good as it can be with good musical pieces throughout the movie and creative scenes showcasing inventiveness seen in the first movie.
The Witch is kind of a mess and not scary. At all. Sure its shocking at times but is it as good as its trailers made it out to be? No. And that's the problem. The trailers made it out to be super scary but upon initial viewing, it's a sham and only a commentary on religious extremes, insanity and perception. Huge letdown and disappointment.
I enjoyed Mortal Engines. Sure its overstuffed with content and barely develops any of the characters besides its main protagonist but the production design and steampunk setting makes me want to watch sequels bigtime. It's so cool and interesting and I want more.
Spiderman : Into the Spiderverse is the most visually stunning comicbook cartoon ever made! It is a love letter to Spiderman fans both hardcore and casual! It is so fun, energetic and kinetically awesome that I can't wait to watch it again.
The Crimes of Grindewald is excellent and better than Fantastic Beasts and where to find them. Johnny Depp, Jude Law, Eddie Redmayne and Zoey Kravitz are Fantastic. The pacing is quick and the movie doesn't ever really stop its momentum as new creatures are introduced throughout the movie making the movie more enjoyable. I also enjoyed it's slightly more adult tone and its story twist!
Mission Impossible Fallout is quite possibly the best mission impossible movie ever made. The story is a little predictable but its action scenes are amazing and the story has curveballs which are ultimately satisfying
Margot Robbie gives an amazing performance matched only by the actress Allison Janney who plays her vile mother Lavona Garden. Captain America Winter Soldiers Sebastian Stan rounds out the cast as abusive and pathetic boyfriend / husband Jeff Gilloly and he shrunk down in body size for the role. I was hooked every step of the way with the various threads playing out throughout the movie
Avengers Infinity War is so epic and one huge war movie full of amazing production design and all out action. I remember 10 years ago standing at the Marvel booth at Comic Con International as Marvel Studios announced Captain America as they showed Captain Americas shield, Thor's hammer Mjolnir and a life size movie replica of the Infinity Gauntlet. That's when fans new we were in for something epic and it has finally arrived in the form of the first part of this two part story. Infinity War is an amazing movie and although it takes liberties due to not being able to use the usual characters such as Silver Surfer or Adam Warlock or even the Fantastic Four
