There is no wonder why Todo Sobre Mi Madre won the Oscar for Best Foreign Film. It doesn't nearly everything a movie should do. The acting is fantastic. The plot is original yet the themes are somehow still universal when broadened. And despite how crazy it may seem when watching this enthralling movie, it feels believable and sincere from start to finish.
This is marks the first time I saw a film by Pedro Almodovar. It's an absolutely amazing movie. I had no idea going into it how much I would like it, or if I would like it at all. I don't even know how to articulate how much I enjoyed it. Gael Garcia Bernal is fantastic. I would recommend this to anyone, especially if they love Spanish films.
No aspect of Catwoman is well-done. Everything is simply horrendous. I don't want to say anymore because I would be here all day writing and this review would become awfully redundant.
The Fly is without a doubt one of David Cronenberg's best films. The movie becomes more than a meager horror-based science fiction flick. Cronenberg excellently explores the relationships between man and technology, man and animal, and worsening laziness and imminent doom. Although there are multiple themes embedded within The Fly, it is still a terrifying horror film. The gore and violence are prevalent, but it's very tastefully done. This is by far one of the best remakes ever made. This is how it's done.
How could a movie directed by John Landis featuring Dan Aykroyd and Chevy Chase be so unbelievably unfunny? Well, the comedic timing was off at various points, which can mostly be attributed to poor writing. Many of the segments in Spies Like Us seemed as though they were only included in order to garner cheap laughs. In general, they entire movie seems like one giant cheap laugh. I don't think John Landis, Dan Aykroyd, and Chevy Chase have ever been more disappointing.
