I ask you all to bare in mind that in 1987, The Next Generation was met with great skepticism and really didn't find its footing (in my opinion) until season 3.
From my point of view, this rendition of Star Trek is following a similar path. I found season 2 such a struggle to watch simply because of poor storyline and lack of imagination. For my experience, the show was so bad, I couldn't even finish season 2.
The original series and TNG did a great job of touching on issues of social controversy, whereas this show seems to force feed social acceptance. I'm all for diversity like same sex relationships, which are overtones of this series BUT it seems so forced and not organic like the previous shows.
That being said I'm in my early 40s and perhaps not the demographic of this show. While I'm not a fan of ST: DISCO, I'd urge you to give the series a try and form and opinion for yourself.
What an amazing journey this series turns out to be! I have always believed that Stranger Things was a mix between: The X-Files, Twilight Zone, Twins Peaks and the Goonies. Well as of now, add Fast Times At Ridgemont High to the list! The story is so well written and the cast is excellent! Perhaps I am partial as I grew up as a youngster in the 80's bur the play on nostalgia is so much fun and while there's evil that looms all around, the creators know how to create: humor and suspense along with terror to round out (in my opinion) the best season of Stranger Things yet! Also, the story is left wide open for a fourth season and I CANNOT WAIT!
