No unnecessary singing.

The Monuments Men

An OK WW2 yarn but it could have been better.

Mr. Turner
Mr. Turner (2014)

Great acting, stupendous production (art, costuming, etc.), but a story that I think will leave most Americans (save those familiar with English art) saying "meh". At times, the accents were a little hard to understand. And since I had never heard of Turner, I found it hard to appreciate his contributions from the movie. Spall does a great job but not quite enough to make me particularly interested in Turner's life. Recommended with reservations (for obscureness).

The Lunchbox
The Lunchbox (2014)

A sweet movie about two lonely people who form a connection through mischance. Saajan is an older widower near retirement, Ila is a wife and mother whose husband has lost interest. They connect through letters and the bizarre lunchbox delivery system that exists in Mumbai. (Be sure to wiki dabbawalas before watching this movie.) Steady paced with sure-handed direction, "The Lunchbox" is subtly humorous and an interesting look into Indian culture. Recommended.

Chef (2014)

Just a wonderful movie, and an amazing food movie. This might be the best food movie ever. Favreau is great with lots of support from Vergara, Leguizamo, and 10YO Emjay Anthony. Bits of humor especially when Robert Downey Jr is on screen. Indie comedies can sometimes be bland but this is sharp and funny. Highly recommended especially so if you're a foodie.
