The Amazing Spider-Man

½

This film is to Sam Raimi's "Spider-Man" (2002) what a diamond is to a lump of coal. What stands out the most about this adaptation is that you not only care about the mask, but the man underneath it.

½

This film raises a lot of troubling questions: Why is the hero of the anti-imperialist metaphor always a white guy? Is this James Cameron's way of going in for a high five from the American Indians? How is this the highest grossing film in history? Have people stopped watching movies and just started looking at them?

Moonrise Kingdom
4 years ago via Rotten Tomatoes

Moonrise Kingdom brings a lot of new elements to the Wes Anderson archive without sacrificing the unique style and explicit attention to detail he's so famous for. This caricature of youth has earned a spot as the newest addition to my top five, helped in no small part by the flawless set design, as well as the moody and often chilling soundtrack composed by Alexandre Desplat. See this film.

Brave

"Brave" is a great movie in it's own respects, but it lacks the charm and ingenuity of it's predecessors.

Bolt
Bolt (2008)

The adorable hijinks of "Bolt" are only the surface of a unique existentialist metaphor. A delightful family comedy that's bigger on the inside.
