The film seems to be in a rush and the film-makers appear to have been too. That said, the acting is fantastic, there's some great moments in the film and it feels like it could have been great with a more careful production and a longer running time to flesh out it's story.
It may occasionally be too clever for it's own good, but this is a movie with brilliant direction, acting, pacing and a jaw dropping score. The characters are reluctantly exposed and forced to confront issues of each other's opposing lives as a cabby takes a hit man unwillingly to his targets. The film throws up even more damatic set pieces then action ones and takes it's bizarre premise in to a total believable place. A glorious watch, whether you love action, thrillers, suspense, or just some good dialogue.
On the plus, it's beautifully directed, acted and the pacing is perfect with a soundtrack that is brilliantly minimalist. So what could be wrong? Well, as clever as it is, the central message of friendship and family feels more tested then proven. You just don't find yourself caring about the strains between the characters as they are never given time to show a chemistry on screen before the fantastic problems emerge. That said, let yourself follow it and it's a clever little story.
Well I'm shocked. Can't I even say I particularly enjoy any super hero films that much, and yet this was everything it was hyped to be. A grounded and emotional movie with great dialogue and story telling. It both references itself and the absurdity of comic book stories, whilst wrestling with the questions of what it would be like to live those issues in reality. Well paced and not short of good action, drama and big surprises. Brilliant film.... Yes I know, I'm shocked to be saying it.
Brilliant tense moments, big atmosphere and lots of intrigue. What holds it all together is 3 perfect lead performances, and unlike most of these thrillers that rely on mystery and confusion, Sicario offers some fantastic pay offs at the end. A great intense thriller.
