Guardians of the Galaxy

This movie's balls are bigger than Kevin Feige's pockets. Marvel Studios has done the impossible and brought the full force of the comic book medium to the big screen. How do they keep one uping themselves like this? You want a new Star Wars movie? Look no further than Guardians of the Galaxy!

How to Train Your Dragon 2

When was the last time an American animated movie was this beautiful? This touching? This awesome-nay... this BADASS?! Probably the prequel ;) This series continuous to surprise me on every level, and I cannot wait to see what Dreamworks has in store for the third installment.

Maleficent (2014)
3 years ago via Rotten Tomatoes

Hell hath no furry like a women's scorn... sort of. Angelina Jolie kills it as the mistress of all evil (as expected), and the origin story given to Maleficent is awesome! Sadly, the potential is lost as soon as the princess's classic christening is concluded. Rather than humanize and justify a villain, we see a completely different story about... motherly love? Oh, and men suck. Duh! I'd rather not get into spoiler-esque territory, but I found it disappointing to see such a dynamic first act followed up by what was the rest of the movie, straying too far from not only the narrative of the original, but also the characters that we still see 50 years later! Aside from the plot and abuse use of cgi, there is some fantastic cinematography to be found and plenty of magical artistic design throughout the movie. All in all, not a bad movie, just tons of wasted potential.
