Just came back from the cinemas watching Ra.One. And what can i say... i'd like to start with the line "loads of stunning special effects wasted in a movie without a soul in its story or in its direction." Yep true, this was a golden opportunity missed by the Indian film makers. Certainly, this is much better than Krrish, which was nothing but a senseless movie. Ra.One has got one thing right and that's the VFX or the special effects. Now dont get me wrong, there aren't many action scenes, but there are enough special effects. If this sounds complicated, i'd say it in simple words that you will be more than satisfied with the special effects but also you will be left unsatisfied with the amount of action sequences. No doubt the best sequence was the one in which G.One boards the train in his own style and also the G.One's entry was exciting & even the climax which has tons of animations (Good ones). The problem with the movie is that, it lacks a solid story. The story was simply rubbish which led into a totally horrifying climax. The climax was a total bizarre. The editing in the movie is also pretty bad. The suits of both the main characters were impressively designed & presented. The 1st half of the movie was quite good, but then after the interval... the movie starts going over your head. One thing is pretty questionable that, the movie is quite childish, but why there have been adult humor added in the movie & even what effect would it leave on children when they see the onscreen leading child artist saying "Condom Condom"? If you want to add adult humor in the movie, then make the script of the movie for adults too! Though some of the funny scenes makes you laugh. The performances, well, there's only scope for Shahrukh Khan in the movie & everyone merely has any role. The background score is not effective at all. Also the cameo performances by Rajinikanth, Priyanka Chopra & Sanjay Dutt takes the story nowhere & all of them have been wasted, although Rajinikanth's presence in the movie somehow makes an impact. Apart from the stunning VFX, it has nothing exceptional. A movie which even might turn into the biggest blockbuster ever, but Bollywood still needs an EPIC superhero movie. Well this was a chance...and the makers of the movie didn't quite grab it!
My Rating: 6/10 (mostly coz of its VFX)
Watched X2: X-Men United, again of course. Watched it long back, but had to watch again. Bryan Singer is one director whom i have appreciated a lot. The Usual Suspects is without any doubt, his masterpiece. But Singer gave all the Marvel Comic fans an impressive X Men movie. But later, he gave us an exceptional movie experience in the sequel to the first X Men movie. The sequel was in almost every aspect, better the first movie. Bunch of new characters (Nightcrawler, Colossus, Pyro, William Stryker, Lady Deathstrike & others), stronger & much more entertaining screenplay, nice humor & well made special effects makes this movie a better one than the other movie. The movie starts off with the EPIC Nightcrawler sequence, which was a treat to watch. Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Ian McKellen, Famke Janssen, Patrick Stewart, Alan Cumming & all the others have been amazing in the roles. The action sequences involving the special effects will engage the audience & will go on entertaining till its end. No special background score apart from the opening sequence. Well directed, introduction to the new characters, hugely entertaining. X2 is a gift for all the X Men fans & Marvel fans. Marvelous movie.
Watched Hanna. Remember Hit Girl from Kick Ass, yep, Chloe Moretz! Oh yeah, you will compare Saoirse Ronan of HANNA with her definitely. HANNA was a silent winner among the critics & even in the box office. The reasons! Well, its quite clear. The movie was refreshing, had a different look, had nicely & cleverly shot action scenes, pretty good performances with good cast & of course the famous soundtrack by Chemical Brothers. Movie has a simple story & also it starts off silently (well, literally as well). Movie is right in the track from the beginning & leads to a pacy flow. Once the Chemical Brothers' soundtrack kicks off, it starts blowing up your mind, with the nicely shot & choreographed action scenes. Saoirse Ronan was actually good in all of her moves. The Bourne movies style action scenes & plot will be loved by all the action thriller lovers. With an admirable supporting cast like Eric Bana, Cate Blanchett, Olivia Williams, Jason Flemyng...it keeps the viewers engaged. Although, the Olivia Williams & Jason Flemyng part was somehow unwanted towards its end or unsatisfied. Director Joe Wright moves on to a whole new different genre of movie this time & he does it well, nice work Joe! Saoirse Ronan has acted pretty well & goes on exactly with what her character demands. The movie has a twist towards its end which might not be able to satisfy every people, pretty different & unexpected. Chemical Brothers' soundtrack is exceptional & energetic & one of the high points of the movie. Surely reminds of The Social Network & Tron Legacy. Nice action, stylish & different in its own way & adrenaline pumping soundtrack makes this movie a nice watch.
watched Pirates of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. The movie's runtime is 136 minutes. But gosh, it felt as if it was twice the actual runtime. This movie series has been declining since the 2nd part itself. The first in the movie series was without any doubt the best, followed by the next part. But this movie series has lost its track since the third movie. Useless characters (loads of them), loose screenplay & story, very repetitive & lacks some solid entertainment. The all the mentioned things exists in this movie as well. Along with it, this movie fails in various ways... such as:
1. Lacks the feeling of a POTC movie, if we just change the name of Jack Sparrow, this will be a whole new ordinary adventure movie.
2. Very badly edited movie & poorly directed. Its very much ordinary like, in the beginning when the name of the movie rolls down, then suddenly the movie jumps on to the movie again, same during the end credits.
3. Hans Zimmer's music is not as effective as it should have been, its the same score all the way in the movie except some of the new scores (good one though) here & there.
The only thing that makes this movie watchable is Jack Sparrow's humor or Johnny Depp's performance. Yup, his humor "thankfully" makes you smile. A big disappointment. A very boring & shallow first half & a little something for the audience in the second half. Jack Sparrow, come up with something exciting next time, the way you did the first time.
Watched SUPER. All the comparisons with KICK ASS or DEFENDOR is obvious. But SUPER is very different than both the movies. KICK ASS was a commercially entertaining movie, whereas DEFENDOR was just a drama movie. SUPER is actually a cult comedy. KICK ASS had different sort of humor, but to be honest, SUPER takes away the prize when it comes to humor. SUPER is kind of a laugh out loud humorous movie. Rainn Wilson was no doubt suitable & hilarious. Liv Tyler & Kevin Bacon were fine. Ellen Page is fiercely awesome, people will enjoy her role as Boltie. I dont know why critics have not appreciated this movie as much as it deserved to be, but sometimes..critics aren't right. So is the case with this movie. The background score is fine & goes with the mood of the movie. Funny, gory, dark & enjoyable at the same time. If you like superheroes, you will love the humor of this movie. Have a blast.
