After seeing these extremely high RT scores by both the critics and the audience, I knew that I had to see this movie. After I saw it, however, I started to wonder why this was the movie getting all of the praise. I mean it's not a bad film at all... In fact, it's a very well made movie, but I guess something didn't click with me that may have clicked with others. One of the main things I heard about this movie was how funny it was. While watching the movie, I only laughed a couple times, and that was before the zombie apocalypse ensued. I feel like they didn't know what kind of movie they wanted to make: An actual zombie movie, or a funny satire? At times, it can feel like either one of those. Another thing that never really clicked with me was that it feels like not a lot happened in the movie. I mean, obviously a zombie apocalypse happened, which is basically all you need, but the main event of the movie was our group of characters trying to make it to a pub. That's it. They could have come up with something a little better than that. Other than those two huge problems, the rest of the movie is good. The characters are unique and memorable, and the zombie effects are fantastic. You can obviously tell they drew inspiration from George Romero's films for the effects, and many other factors of this film. Overall, I would recommend this movie to zombie fans. Maybe it will click with you more than it did for me. -Brett

Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End

Going into this movie, I was really looking forward to it. Though many people did not enjoy Dead Man's Chest, I found it very entertaining, and I loved the plot about Davy Jones's heart. I really wanted to see how the story would end, and if the trilogy would end on a high note. Long story short, it didn't. This movie is overly long, very boring, very confusing, and a big step down from the previous installments. First of all, like I said up above, I was looking forward to the continuation of the "killing Davy Jones' plotline. That plot seemed to be pushed towards the end of the film to make room for the boring EITC plot that wasn't even that interesting in the first film. It was very disappointing, and I think the film would have been better if it was mainly that. Second of all, there was just way to much going on. I mean, there were so many subplots, that it made the entire film confusing and overly long. Plus, there seemed like there were thousands of different characters being introduced, and I didn't care about any of them. This added to the confusing factor of this film, and they should have known this wasn't going to work. Third of all, even with all these characters, Disney realized that Jack Sparrow was the moneymaker here, so they added a lot of him. Even though the first thirty minutes are Depp-less, they make up for it with a full crew of Captain Jack's on the screen at much, and from there on, it's the Johnny Depp show. And I don't blame them really, because even the other main characters are way more boring than they should be. This movie would get a lower rating, but the action and the set pieces are well done again in this movie, which means that at least SOME people put some effort in this. Overall, this movie is one that you can skip, and hopefully the fourth one will make up for it. -Brett

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest

After watching the first Pirates film, I was ready to see what direction the filmmakers were going to go with this one. As soon as the film started, I instantly knew that it was going to be darker than the previous film. Not that that's a bad thing or anything, but it definitely alienates some of the people that liked the previous film, because the first movie had a sense of charm that Disney movies usually have. I, frankly, didn't care at all. In fact, I loved the direction they were taking this, because I didn't want it to be a rehash of the first. This time around, more fantasy elements are thrown in. The crazy stuff that happens in this movie makes the first film (a film that had fighting, invincible skeletons) look completely realistic. The plot of this movie is more complex than the previous film, but it's pretty easy to follow. The directions the plot takes our characters makes the film very divergent, and it never gets boring. Johnny Depp is back as Jack Sparrow, and while he's not as unpredictable as last time, he's still fun to watch. The villain in the movie, Davy Jones, is a very unique creature, and his whole crew is amazing to look at. The action in this film is not very realistic like the previous film, but it is very fun and beautiful to look at. I had a good time watching this film, but I can see some fans of the first movie feeling left out and not enjoying it very much. Give it a watch. -Brett
