I Am Curious (Blue) (Jag är nyfiken - en film i blått)

This tried my patience even more than "Yellow". Outside of the historical context and the controversy the film's release drummed up, it's pretty uninteresting.

Made for tv adaptation will feel very familiar to fans of the 1976 film, though it's slightly closer to the original novel. This version takes longer to tell its story, has to cut back on the profanity/violence, and essentially hit the same notes as before. The lead actress is similarly tragic, but it does seem very unnecessary. NOT RECOMMEND.

The Rage: Carrie 2

Bottom of the barrel trash. A sequel of sorts, but really just the premise repurposed for the late 90s teen horror resurgence. They dig up the sole survivor 23 years later to play a supporting role, but this is pretty much the same story as before. We get some more gruesome carnage with the climactic rage, but nothing as iconic as the pig's blood splattering the prom dress. The lead character is less of a victim throughout compared to the original film; maybe a strong move for female roles in movies, but the sympathy/tragedy factor was portrayed well in the original. STRONG NOT RECOMMEND.

½

I have begun my Stephen King film retrospective. Classic chiller about teenage alienation and horrific revenge. It's less horror than just brutal treatment/abuse of a sheltered naive girl, victimized by her religious zealot mother and queen bee classmate. Sissy Spacek plays the victim well, but turns it around during that climactic prom sequence to be the threat. Brian De Palma has turned a pulpy book into a pulpy enjoyable movie. MILD RECOMMEND.
