Here's a movie that shouldn't be missed. "Contagion" is a smart, fast-moving medical thriller about a worldwide viral pandemic. Directed by Steven Soderbergh, this film with all-star cast, is riveting from start to finish, and it feels so real. You could very well imagine this is the way the world would handle a lethal airborne virus that kills within days. There's something very clinical about the way Soderbergh presents the story. But, just when you think it's going to become some kind of docu-drama, the director slams you back to the ground with human emotion and suffering. Matt Damon's performance is particulary memorable. His character is married to one of the virus' first victims, played by Gwyneth Paltrow. Damon nails it. He brings world-weariness and paternal instincts to the role, and you geniunely care about his character. In fact, the cast is uniformly excellent and also includes Marion Cotillard, Laurence Fishburne, Jude Law and Kate Winslet. "Contagion" is one of the best films I've seen so far in 2011. Grade: A-
