Eddie Izzard - Dress to Kill
7 years ago via Rotten Tomatoes

This is as close to a British presentation of a Robin Williams stand-up routine as I have ever seen. Eddie Izzard is not quite as animated or as bizarre as Mr. Wlliams but he does like to go off on tangents, some of which are funny and some of which are not. Oh well, you win some and you lose some.

If you are a fan of "english humour" then this will be a pleasant treat. I found Mr. Izzard to be charming and funny, at times I even laughed out loud and slapped my knee. That has to count for something, right?

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
9 years ago via Rotten Tomatoes

Plodding and emotionally distant, the songs became more of an annoyance than anything. Some decent acting but not enough to ever want to make me see this again. I get it, people, you like Jonny Depp but c'mon, it isn't a very engaging movie. Aside from art directors I can't see how people really like this movie.

Into the Wild
Into the Wild (2007)

Going in I didn't think I would enjoy the story very much (guy goes to Alaska to get away from it all? Boring) but by the end of this at times tragic film I left the theatre pondering the ideas presented and found an appreciation for the encouraging and profound themes.

Gone Baby Gone
10 years ago via Rotten Tomatoes

Excellent direction from Ben Affleck! Who knew? And his brother, Casey, did a fantastic job as well. This is a very well done cop/drama/thriller with wonderful sensitivity and pathos. Highly recommended.

Eastern Promises
10 years ago via Rotten Tomatoes

Viggo was good. Unfortunately, the rest was mediocre at best. The violence was totally gratuitous, almost comical in one scene. It was as if the script only came out to 60 minutes and they had to stretch it somehow by having the characters talk very sloly and stare at each other. Based on the very positive reveiews from critics I expected a much better movie.

I don't know what Eastern Promises means (other than the very obvious "hope for a better life in the West) but I can promise you this: no chance of an Oscar for this one.
