Beyond the Gates of Splendor

THIS DOCUMENTARY IS ABOUT MISSIONARIES THAT ENTER A REMOTE AND VERY DANGEROUS AREA OF ECUADOR AND HOW FIVE OF THEM WERE KILLED. I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE WHOLE CONCEPT OF MISSIONARIES ENTERING HAPPY PEOPLE'S LIVES WITH THE INTENT TO CONVERT THEM TO CHRISTIANITY. IF THESE MISSIONARIES HAD JUST LEFT THEM ALONE TO LEAD THEIR HAPPY LIVES, THEY WOULDN'T HAVE GOTTEN KILLED TO BEGIN WITH!! WHEN WILL CHRISTIANS EVER LEARN JUST TO LEAVE NON CHRISTIANS ALONE? DID IT EVER OCCUR TO THESE SELFISH MISSIONARIES THAT THESE PEOPLE KILLED BECAUSE THEIR PEACEFUL LIFE EXISTENCE BEING INTRUDED ON? I FOUND IT VERY DIFFICULT TO SYMPATHIZE WITH THEIR DEATHS.

64/100. Slow moving but very well acted by Joan Allen and Jeremy Irons. Nicely photographed and of course the wonderful art of Georgia O'Keeffe is a big plus for the movie. I would have liked to see more of that than so much focus on the trials and tribulations of her marriage. The stars and the artwork makes it worthwhile.

Badly acted, excessively cheesy and a ridiculous plot. The action scenes lack thrills, the special effects are poor. Just dumb.

I liked the fact that the film was dofferent, it has an unusual plot. It does have a low budget look, but the performances aren't bad and it is an appropriate 86 minute length.

Yes, it is bad, but it is the kind of bad that you can enjoy. It doesn't take itself too seriously, (at least I hope not!) and is filled with just about every cliche from every teenage horror flick. The score is unusually bad. That'll teach you for cheating by taking steroids.
