If it were done with any less craft and skill, it would be hardly better than an "After School Special". It's not easy to do a story about the triumph of spirit and dreams, over the rigors of reality and arbitrary rules, without coming across as preachy or sappy. But the filmmakers let the characters tell the story, and gave them the time to tell it, so that when the emotional peeks do come, they don't feel forced.

V for Vendetta

I was mostly bored through this flick. It had some good (not great) moments. It had some awful (worse than "not good" or bad) moments.

The emotionally traumatic calling out of a persons name just doesn't work when it's a masked-man's codename. And a passionate kiss on the lips doesn't work when it's done against a fixedly overexpressive mask. It's been too long since I watched the movie, but I do know it's not worth rewatching in order to give more reasons as to my displeasure.

If I were rating this purely on political merit, I'd give it a "10"...however, propaganda is very distasteful when it's forced.
