Brokeback Mountain

Movies like this are why we have movies. Viewing this amazing film is a life-changing event. It's as perfect a film experience as can be imagined. Even though the guys are imperfect human beings you can't help but love them and get totally drawn into their story.

Perfect casting, perfect acting, perfect everything. A gorgeous and heart-wrenching movie. Should have won the best picture Oscar that year - without question it is one of the best pictures ever.

Watchmen (2009)

Well, I knew nothing about the characters before I saw this film, and after seeing the movie I can state most emphatically that I CARE nothing about any of the characters. What's heroic about even one of these "heroes"? My husband and I watched it together, and we both agree it was an affront and a waste of our time.

People who would find such personalities in any way admirable worry me.

Overall the film is relentlessly dark, bottomlessly cynical, deeply depressing, and the only time it isn't confusing and boring is when it is either laughably preposterous or sickeningly violent. The only fun we had watching it was when we were making fun of it.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall

One of the funniest movies ever made. It's for grown-ups, because it's basically all about sex, and there is a lot of sex talk and simulated sex in it.

There is also a lot of skin in it, including more than one scene that features full-frontal male nudity. Not a quick glimpse either. I am talking about a good, long look at the guy. And that's within the first five minutes.

Anyway, it's one of the funniest movies ever made. It's genius.

The protagonist is pathetic and endearing - you can't help but be on his side. There's foxy chicks and lots of Hawaii in it too.

Everybody should see this one. It's a benchmark! Definitely set a new standard for sex comedies. Oh, it's actually romantic too, so (depending on who you are dating) it might make a great date movie.

Avatar (2009)

Absolutely stunning. An incredible achievement. A completely thrilling and satisfying movie experience. The movie is long, but doesn't seem long. Fantastic. As entertaining as is possible. Everybody has their quibbles with it, but one can't quibble away the monumental.

Serenity (2005)

It's action-packed, violent, and a completely fresh and new vision of a possible future.
