If The Curious case of Benjamin Button proves one thing, its that David Fincher is the finest film-maker of my generation (with Christopher Nolan a close second). What a beautiful and captivating film this was. And so unloved at the Oscars. After Fight Club, Seven and Zodiac I wondered where David Fincher could go from there after three masterpieces he manages to create something so poignant and spellbinding with Benjamin Button. The story is told by an 80 year old woman named Daisy (Cate Blanchett) whose in hospital dying. Daisy asks her daughter to read a diary by Benjamin Button (Brad Pitt) to her before she passes away. Daisy and Benjamin loved each other but their relationship was not simple. Benjamin ages backwards, at the age of 6 he has the appearance of an 80 year old man, as he ages he grows younger. Daisy becomes the love of his life but their relationship is ultimately set to fail because of his condition.

This is a beauitful film in every aspect. The Cinematography is gorgeous, the attention to detail is perfect and mesmorising to watch. This is a real visual experience. The story is packed with so much emotion its hard not to be sucked into this world of Benjamin Button's. By the end of the film both me and my boyfriend were in tears as the events came to a close. Its so rare to find a film with so much meaning but The Curious Case of Benjamin Button does. The acting is fantastic from the entire cast, Cate Blanchett once again proves why she's one of the best and hardest working actresses in Hollywood with her subtle and heartfelt performance. Brad Pitt whilst very good has given strong performances in other Fincher pictures.

I cannot recommend The Curious Case of Benjamin Button to you enough, the duration is long but its worth absolutely every minute of your time. How this recieved so few oscars is beyond me. A modern day masterpiece, The Curious case of Benjamin Button is captivating, moving and rather haunting too. The end scence in particular will get to you emotionally. A beautiful film to look at and take in, it tells such a beautiful yet tragic story about love. This is one of the best films of last year, not Fincher's finest film to date but still a fantastic film all the same.
