A History of Violence
11 years ago via Rotten Tomatoes

I wasn't sure what to expect from this movie. Would it be another drama that doesn't go anywhere by trying to be too deep or would be another cookie cutter good guy overcomes bad things uplifting thing. Being a Cronenberg film, I expected the former along with some weird stuff. Of course the only film I've ever watched of his in its entirey is Naked Lunch. Weird stuff that is.

Well, I was pleasantly surprised. The movie was gripping. It dealt with the issue of violence and whether one could escape from a past in an entertaining and thought provoking way.

I'm not going to go into the plot as that can be found elsewhere but the performances were excellent throughout. My girlfriend didn't like the acting by the daughter but her role is minor.

Viggo is the star with strong performances by Bello and Harris. I felt Hurt was a little over the top but other than that, excellent. I really enjoyed the son's character too. It was real but that moment where he acts on what every person who has ever been bullied wants to do was shocking but portrayed with realism.

The sexual scenes actually caused a stir at our screening but I think they enhanced the movie except the one scene of full nudity which I think added nothing other than shock value.

The violence in the movie was in many ways shocking as well but I think this was the theme of the movie, so I didn't consider it gratuitous (though the squeamish should be warned, classic Cronenberg).

I really liked the last scene. It wasn't contrived and felt real. All in all, a really good film. Makes you think but most important, keeps you entertained.

Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit

I love cute stuff. Smurfs are my favourite. Well, this movie was cute, very cute. The happy bunnies were my favourite part along with Gromit. Gromit is definitely one of my favourite characters of all time and this movie made me feel for him.

The story is simple and quaint. Gromit is really the star, as he should be.

The scenery and animation is magical in a way that other forms cannot be.

I'm really disappointed in the low box office but I guess this is what happens when you release in October instead of summer. Hopefully DVD sales will take this safely into profitable territory.

I hope they'll make another one. Gromit will bring a smile to everyone but the most jaded.

Wow.. I expected to like this movie but was worried about it being too Disneyfied. Well all my expectations were surpassed. This movie was very entertaining and made me smile many times.

I feel like a dirty old man cause

The acting was quite good, I particularly liked the love interest and the rebel hero (flame dude, can't remember his name).

All in all a great family film with wonderful characters.

The 40 Year Old Virgin

I've been trying to see this for so long and finally saw it last night. I went with my gf. Big mistake. She hates raunch/sex comedies but the person I was supposed to see it with bailed on me.

I definitely would have enjoyed it more if I didn't see her squirming and sighing heavily every few minutes but I still liked the movie.

I thought Steve did a fantastic job playing someone so innocent. I think I would have liked it even more if some of the situations weren't so over the top (like the crazy drunk girl - didn't like that scene because I didn't believe his character, so conservative would let someone drive drunk instead of getting a cab). I understand they were played for laughs so it's no biggie.

I really enjoyed the relationship between the virgin and Keener the most. It was sweet. Also liked Keener's daughter in the movie.

I look forward to seeing Carrell in more starring roles.

First let me start by saying that I'm not a Joss Whedon fanatic.
I've enjoyed some Buffy episodes but have seen less than 10% of them.
Never watched Angel either.

I have seen maybe 4 episodes of Firefly when they showed them during a marathon and only cause my gf wanted to watch them (it was her first time seeing them too).

My gf got excited about this movie after seeing those few episodes. I must admit I like the characters a lot, particurly Captain Canuck himself.

I had pretty lofty expectations for this movie.

Well, the movie pretty much met them all. The movie was fun, the dialogue was really fun and was my favourite part of the movie.
I enjoyed the story and the villain.

I know some people said the special effects looked cheap, I noticed it (but only because of the reviews) but it didn't affect my enjoyment of the movie and spending another $20 million to make the effects better would not have made the experience better for me.

All in all a very fun film and I hope it makes enough for a sequel.
