Couldn't force myself to endure anymore than 20 minutes of pain with this poor excuse of a.... film?? Bad camera work, laughable dialog, abysmal acting. How oh how did the great Tom Savini get himself mixed up in this mess I'll never know, nor really ever care! Best forgotten with a nice strong nip (or two) of your favourite 100% proof to ensure permanent deletion.

This is horror cinema! Horror Express is easily one of my all time favourite classic horror films. It has all the hallmarks of greatness. Firstly it stars 2 supremo horror actors, the late great Mr Peter Cushing and the equally brilliant Mr Christopher Lee. Secondly it has a story to die for including, a alien entity that is bought aboard the the Express train frozen in a "missing link" monster. (But frozen not for long!) An evil being that drains the memories of the living through simply staring and hypnotizing its prey, turning them into white eyed corpses. Mouth watering creature and camera effects, man this is one creepy entity. A finale that includes a horde of undead zombies amassing towards a trapped group of passengers on a speeding coal fired locamotive. And much, much more. Oh and lest we forget a strong supporting cast including Telly Savalas. Horror Express quite simply has some of the most memorable and genuinely chilling scenes and imagry of any horror film, period. An absolute horror classic. Don't miss this gem. I've seen it no less than 5 times since I first discovered it a few years back and it never ceases to feel fresh or pack the same powerful punch as the first viewing. This is a very rare feat.

The Devil Bat
The Devil Bat (1940)

Devil Bat is a solidly entertaining, if perhaps a little camp and more amusing than frightening tale, starring the late great, Bela Lugosi. The visual effects of the giant blood sucking bat developed by the mad Doctor (played by Bela) are quite ingenious for the era of production. I was sure it would look much more fake during its flight to kill, but the production team should have received a sturdy pat on the back for their efforts, almost believable! Funniest thing about the movie is the swooping noise the bat makes as it attacks, I truly don't believe there has been a more amusing sounding noise for a evil giant bat in the history of cinema. Very funny! Anyway definately worth checking out if not for an adrenaline rush of fear, but a hearty chuckle at the ludicrousy of it all.

It should be mentioned that Bela Lugosi is at his brilliant best in the lead and the supporting cast fill their respective roles effectively.

Evil Aliens
Evil Aliens (2005)

There is very little to like about this film. 1: The acting is medicore at best and the characters cliche. You've got your sassy news reporter who'll do anything to reach the top, your token gay, a pot smoking camera man, blonde bimbo etc, etc.

2: The plot is, although original, boring. Blood hungy Aliens butcher cattle, anal probe humans and then butcher our friendly cast of desperates whom are dieing (No pun intended) to get a story of their lives for their fledging cable channel. They initially set off to a remote house where the local lass claims she has fallen heavily pregnant within a couple of days of being abducted by aliens. Thinking she's a crack pot with a good yarn and intent on getting some bogus footage of aliens and crop circles (all staged by them) they set off. However they soon find out that she is infact telling the truth as one by one the crew, like the cattle before them, are decapitated, and slaughtered.

One thing in its favour is that it is GORE soaked. Fans of splatter films like director Peter Jackson's earlier, Bad Taste & Dead Alive aka Brain Dead, will probably get a bit of a kick out of the over the top violence, but even they will likely be better off rehiring these aformentioned classics.

The major problem beside the boring plot, bad acting, cliched characters and abhorent dialog, is that Evil Aliens looks and feels like it was made by first year film school students and is D grade entertainment at best. It ranks a close second to worse film I've seen this year just creeping in behind that other load of crud, The Boogyman.

Evil Aliens does however gets an extra point or two for a couple of amusing scenes and for the gross effects which are actually not too bad. Don't waste your time and don't be fooled by the okay looking scene shots I've placed below. These screens are really the creme al la creme, compared to the finished package!
