OK version of psychos doing a murderous invasion, better in fast forward because the format is not violated at all.
Kind of a fun romp in a dystopian prison desert, as long as you have tremendous powers of suspension of disbelief. Future dystopian environments always have one asking "where did they get that?" and "they're roasting over a camp fire on a plain with no rocks and no firewood!" and such. But let these slide by and you've got the adorable amputated Suki Waterhouse running around, Keanu Reeves as an incoherent cult leader and an unrecognizable Jim Carrey as a wandering emergency services worker. Really.
A wonderful piece of absurdist theater, but obviously not for everyone. If you like Samuel Beckett, Monty Python, and just a touch of slapstick this is for you. If you're looking for jokes and plot, don't bother.
This is a good movie but painful to watch, like a non-comedic version of Curb Your Enthusiasm. Never cared for Adam Sandler's Everyman style but here he engages in actual acting instead of his usual schtick and it really works. His creates this incredibly unlikable character - very out of the lovable schmo character he usually does. Great appearances by actors old school and new in a world of gemstones, credit, gambling, and murder. Compelling but cringe inducing. Good entertainment.
