Excellent film in the same vein and style of Tarkovsky (a slow paced but rewarding experience). A must-see for Russian film enthusiasts.

An immensely likeable and well-made film about two brothers growing up in Africa. The two leads are well-cast and I found the direction to be brilliant.

This film came out in France in 1985. It is a coming-of-age story that just doesn't quite work. The main character is a little too naive and it tries to hard to be funny (but, I will say that I never expected Charlotte Gainsbourg to say the line, "Your p***y stinks").
