Robot Jox
Robot Jox (1989)

HEY KIDS! Do you like Robots? Do you like clones?? Do you like a post-apocalyptic setting??! Then i have just the thing for you....ROBOT JOX!....sorta'. To an average viewer, this whole thing would feel overblown/heavy handed in the overall scheme of things.

To a Sci-Fi fan, Robot Jox is a guilty pleasure.

From directing to editing, all is fair except for the highly dated special effects, YIKES! Surprisingly, with a movie plot so ridiculous and a "lower then required" budget, the acting is actually pretty good. That is missing in today's movies, when a great actor is put into a lower budget "it seems" as though they perform accordingly. These actors and actresses did their job as if this movie was special or important, sadly, it is neither. Like i said, don't be picky and you'll enjoy the fact that you're watching a movie with a underlaying "cold war" meaning and huge robots fighting. If you choose to rent this, only watch it with friends who love sci-fi movies that are "so bad its good".

Batman Gotham Knight

Compelling, brutal, bloody and in your face. Batman Gotham Knight released by DC UNIVERSE is probably the biggest surprise this year, for me anyway. I did'nt hear a thing about it, it went straight to DVD and it is down right amazing. I was expected another cheesey american style animation with horrible animation, this is not the case. This movie contains around 5 or 6 20 minute shorts with storylines that interlock in some way. Each short has it's own art style, all with their own uniqueness.

If you would like to see Batman drawn like Vampire Hunter-D, you got it, if you want to see Batman animated like Heavy Metal The Movie, you got! The movie starts off with a short reminiscent of a poppy anime, it had me scared, especially since it was told from the mouths of skateboarding, angst ridden teenagers. The first short is fair enough to start with, but the movie picks up in A BIG WAY. You will be amazed by some truly beautifull, yet brutal animation art styles. The voice work is good and the story is pretty deep and compelling. If you want to get hyped for The Dark Knight, Batman: Gotham Knight is a must watch.

9/10, because its a little on the short side and it will make you want allot more, perhaps a full on movie in your favorite style from this movie. I would love to see a full movie that looks like the short with Croc and Scarecrow.

Videodrome (1983)

Is the TV killing us or are we killing ourselves? That is the question you are asked by writter/director of VIDEODROME, David Cronenberg. If you like mystery, bizzarre sci-fi and extremely unique gore, check this out. This movie is a big reminder of what is wrong with movies today.....lack of vision. 8/10.

Pineapple Express

Not as good as Superbad but its almost just a fucking hilarious. Pineapple Express is a must see. Review coming soon. 8/10.

The Dark Knight

Exciting, intense, thought provoking, disturbing/disturbingly funny, great dialogue, great directing, great action, great everything. The second great comic-book movie this year happens also to be tied for the best in my book next to Iron Man. Christian Bale was good, but the role called for more Batman, it hardly counts as a great performance because its more Batman and less Bale in TDK. Heath Ledger was amazing and perhaps delivers a very different Joker then that of Jack Nicholson's Joker. Depending on what joker you like, it is really hard to choose one over the other. I'd say Spiderman 2 still has the best action, Iron Man has the best comedic relief, but The Dark Knight takes the cake for just being awesome all around.

10/10. I gave Spiderman 2 and Iron Man a 10/10 aswell, so please, don't make me choose, they are all equally unprecedented in their own way. Keep an eye out for my review of The Dark Knight IMAX!
