This movie was every bit as fun as I could have hoped. If you've ever had your GI Joe action figures arrayed in battle order over in a corner of the yard with dirt and sticks and rocks around as your forts and imagined your battles and your wars between Joe and Cobra and Barbie (well you know, you get your figures where you can)then you should love this movie. The story was coherent, the characters were fun and fleshed out just enough to keep the story hurtling to it's conclusion. Was the story cartoonish? Well, it's from a cartoon and comic book and action figure way before those showed up so heck yes it's a cartoon story. The Baroness is hot, Duke is the stoic American hero, the guy who played Dr. Who is sinister and smart, everyone is great in their role. The action and CGI is another step up and the whole movie rolls along relentlessly.
Personally, I'm pretty fed up with the class of reviewers who don't seem to get it. I don't know if it's a desire to stroke their own egos or if it's a mission in life they've all taken to only like 'serious' movies and steer us toward movies that are 'good' for us. I don't know, I don't listen to online or print critics any longer since they don't have a clue. GI Joe is a fun fun movie and I'm going to pay cash money to go see it again.
