I thought it was a delicious period romance although Billie Piper was all wrong.
I love the story but not this adaptation as much. I didnt like Frances O Connor playing Fanny Price. Embeth portrayed Mary Crawford well but I didn't like the lesbian undertones. Hamilton was not attractive enough to play Maria. The brief sex scene was inappropriate and unnecessary for an Austen movie. The rape pictures were too intense for young viewers. Jane Austen should remain a safe haven for G rated audiences.
One of my favorite adaptations I will watch against n and again. The costumes, music, scenery and acting are exceptional. Hollander captured Mr Collins to perfection. Not sure why Southerland held his hand against his mouth at the end. It was as if he was trying to hold his dentures in.
One of my favorites that I will watch again and again. The acting, costumes and music was superb. Harriet Walter was amazing playing greedy Fanny. Stubbs was the perfect manipulative gold digger. sprigs provided excellent comic relief as she ran through the streets with the latest gossip. It could be the best cast Austen film I've seen.
Great acting Phoenix played a great villan. Worth watching.
