No se aceptan devoluciones (Instructions Not ...(2013)

Instructions Not Included is a heartwarming, sweet and charming dramedy which may be clichéd, predictable and mushy, but remains surprisingly touching throughout all its one hundred minutes. With a blend of good natured humor and moments of melodrama the movie ultimately pleases the audience with its formidable cast, almost tear-jerking father-daughter relationship story and emotional load.
Describing the development of the story would result spoilers that would take part of the story's charm, so it would be enough to say that Instructions Not Included follow the seven years after the careless, Mexican Don Juan receives an unexpected delivery at his door: a baby girl. From that moment, the life Valentin (Eugenio Derbez) takes a direction which nobody would have assumed, but everybody enjoys seeing. The story may be clichéd and over-sugared, but this remains almost unnoticed thanks to the amazing on screen chemistry between Eugeonio Derbez and Loreto Peralta (as Maggie, Valentino's daughter). Both are a team to be enjoyed and Derbez is clearly the person who is the main reason for Instrusctions Not Included to be so funny. His facial expressions, relaxed screen behavior and performance of a caring father add not only a great dose of humor to the nice dose of fun, but also contribute to the tonality shift from comedy to drama in the second part of the movie.

Another reason for the success of Derbez's movie (he is also the production's director) is the slow turn of the story from a comedy into a tear-jerking family drama. The tonality shift is executed smoothly as it remains totally unnoticed by the audience and here is where Derbez's achievements must be recognized. From watching a carelessly, funny comedy, the audience is thrown into a dramedy that would evoke emotions and probably some tears would be shed.
In conclusion, Instruction Not Included is a wonderful delivery directed and performed by Eugenio Derbez. With a fine humor and a huge heart its story guarantees that one would experience different spectre of emotions throughout all the hundred minutes of it.
