Kristijan 's Review of Django Unchained
The latest movie from Tarantino is bloody, entertaining, daring in its use of music and colors and tells a story about revenge...so everything you expect is here.
There are some moments where you are not sure whether your watching spaghetti western or serious take on a genre like brilliant Unforgiven, but you just simply have to give credit
to Tarantino who manages to combine all this elements of comedy, drama and exploitation cinema into cohesive whole.
Still, middle part was boring and too long with scenes that did not add nothing new to characters and quite frankly it felt very self indulging (nothing strange for Tarantino).
But I remained invested thanks to Leonardo Di Caprio, Christoph Waltz, Jamie Foxx and Samuel L. Jackson.
Of course movie ends with chatarsic explosion of violence in the same way that Inglourious Basterds ended. It seems that Quentin is trying to become more serious filmmaker, he does possess singular talent to entertain us, to shock us to make us think (in this case) about slavery, and I respect that.
There are great cameos from Franco Nero (original Django) and
Don Johnson, and all other actors give great perfomances especially Christoph Waltz and Samuel L. Jackson who has taken very difficult and brave role.
Despite long running time this is one of the best movies this year and the proof that there are still great stories to tell in the western genre.
