Eric's Review of The Departed
An all star cast in which none of the talent is wasted. Scorsese takes a familiar script in the world of mobsters, but exercises it with verve and vision. Wahlberg and Damon have never been better than this. DiCaprio's role is one that runs rich with threads of atonement, but his eventual fall coupled with the impact of his character on the storyline has greater depth than any other character present and takes an emotional toll on the viewer that lingers long after the credits roll. Nicholson adds a sense of accomplishment to the film that only he can provide. There is not a dull character to be found and this is the heart of great filmmaking.
