Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence make an excellent team in this keen-eyed, character piece about wounded lives on the mend. AMPAS robbed Cooper of the Best Actor statuette while awarding his co-star the Best Actress Oscar. Don't get me wrong, Ms. Lawrence is spunky, vulnerable, and vigorous, but Cooper ascended some real heights. The supporting cast is peerless, especially Robert DeNiro as Cooper's father. Writer-director David O. Russell has come into his own with this film and his previous effort, The Fighter. The only flaw with Playbook is that the third act is somewhat conventional.
